Show Local Kearns American Legion Auxiliary Unit elects new officers The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 132 from Kearns held their elections of new officers for the year. Unit 132 coming 1996-9- 7 holds their meetings in a new Post Therese Plath; Sgt. of Arms, Charise Whitmore; and secretary, Executive board Mary Blain. members are Mary Blain, Bemita Blockovitch, and Kayleen Beebe. Members of the board of directors are Maxine Southern and Wanda Parkinson. The unit looks forward to a great year, especially the National home in Kearns at 4090 W. 5415 So. The new officers are: president, Mary Ann Jensen; 1st vice president, Nancy Willis; 2nd vice pres- ident, Carol Bass; chaplain, Priscilla Rubalcava; historian, Wanda Parkinson; Sgt. of Arms, Convention which here in September. will be held Volunteers plan Christmas in April Volunteers from business, government, and community organizations are making plans now to Christmas celebrate Christmas in April, that is. Christmas in April Salt Lake is the local affiliate of a volunteer organization dedicated to revitalizing neighborhoods by rehabilitating the homes of families, people with disabilities, and older adults. This springs celebration scheduled for will be bigSaturday, April 27 ger than ever with 25 new names added to a wish list of neighbors who will be helped through the program. Last spring the Christmas in Salt Lake affiliate fixed up April 5 Salt Lake Valley homes during its first celebration of the nationwide housing rehabilitation blitz. Plans for the 1996 Christmas in Salt Lake celebration April include a full day of recondition ing for the 25 homes located in Salt Lake City, West Valley, South County, Kearns, and Midvale. The project will require the help of about 700 volunteer worker elves. Doors, windows, roofs, plumbing, and electrical systems will be repaired. Some homes will be painted and generally spruced up, inside and out. Work on driveways will make it easier for care providers to reach disabled and older adult residents needing home health care or Meals on Wheels. Yard cleanup and basic landscaping will brighten yards and improve the surrounding low-inco- neighborhoods. He has a story to tell that needs to be heard. His endurance was unbelievable. He shouldnt have made it, but he did. He represents the indominability of the human spirit. He and others heldz captixe; although nnimilitary, also deserve to be honored. Goble hopes some of the surviving POWs will help dedicate the site on behalf of those who didnt make it back.
