Could it be that the nuts are better than the music? To me, music while youre eating peanuts is an insult to both the conductor and the nuts. A baseball game without goober peas is like a tuxedo without a cumber-bunor like the Jazz without the Mailman. Some people dont like certain types of music, but most everyone likes peanuts. Those who dont like peanuts must be Communists. George Washington Carver, the scientist who developed hundreds of useful products from peanuts, said, When I was young I said to God, God, tell me the mystery of the universe, but God said, That knowledge is reserved for me alone. So I said, Tell the mystery of the peanut. Then God said, Well, George, thats more nearly your size, and he told me. I for one am glad Mr. Carver got some help with the peanut. It has made a lot of games more enjoyable for me, and even days when there were no games. I take my peanuts straight. No salt, no butter, no nothing. Just the great taste of goober peas. As you know, dear reader, the peanut is not a nut at all but rather a legume. A legume is any bean or pea that splits in twro when it is mature. I really dont care what you call it. I only want to eat it, peanut or legume. Burl Ives said it well when he sang it this way: Sittin by the roadside, on a summers day. Chattin with my messmates, passing time away. Laying in the shadows, underneath the trees. Goodness, how delicious; eatin goober peas. Just before the battle, the general hears a row He says, The Yanks are cornin, I hear the rifles now. He turns around in wonder an whatta ya think he sees, The Georgia militia, eatin goober peas. I think my song has lasted almost long enough. The subjects interesting, but the rhymes are mighty tough. I wish the war was over and free from rats and fleas, Wed kiss our wives and sweethearts and gobble goober peas. Can anyone say it better than Burl? I doubt it more tyotein .'GOpbphafre - cream. Xcant-affor- d steak, but I can save up and get me some peanuts I love goobers. I love ballgames. Ill keep goin and eatin em. Besides, you cant take a steak to a ball game, or the opera. SIMONS SAYS: Many a poorly played ball game has been made tolerable by a deep and abiding bag of peanuts. SIMONS SAYS: Of all lifes greatest pleasures, none as good as these. Wearin out your grinders, eatin goober peas. I like d, L- thGI m I Utahs most historic sites, Pioneer Trail Trail State Park will offer a local flavor to our countrys Independence Day celebration.
