Westminster College offers whoopin good time at fundraiser August 7 The Foundation Board of Westminster College is hosting a fundraiser on Tuesday, August 7 called Westminster Downs. The evening events, which will benefit the colleges general fund, will take place on the field of the Dane Hansen Memorial Stadium beginning at 6 p.m. The evening will feature a social hour and barbecue, country music provided by Rosewood, dancing, horse events, auctions, and agrand prize drawing. The attention-gettin- g PSAs target children, teenagers, adults, youthful seniors, and families. The PSA package includes three commercials that take a look at how a trip to the a library helps man, woman, and child finmeet some of lifes challenges used a new a career, purchasing ding car, and calming down a rowdy sibling. Viewers are encouraged to make use of their libraries with the tag line Look into your library expand your world. Also included are two 15 second commercials, designed to run or separately. Box 450025, Atlanta, G A 30345. Young heroes save life of their mother Quick thinking and action by an old boy and his sister saved their mother from drowning in their backyard pool on June 22. Eleven-year-oJeff Moody and his mother Pat were in the family pool when Mrs. Moody suffered a seizure and fell off her raft and sank in the four-fopool. Jeff alertly pulled his mother from the bottom of the pool and kept her head above water and 11 -- year-old 14-ye- ar ld ot monitored her breathing until paramedics arrived at their residence. While waiting for rescue personnel, Jeff shouted for help and his sister, Denise Moody, age 14, responded. Denise called 911 and waited for emergency personnel to arrive and escored them to the backyard area. Mrs. Moody 'as transported to the hospital and later released. Pete Sheriff N.D. Hayward rewarded both Jeff and Denise with a commendation letter and a certificate of achievement. Sheriff Hayward said, Saving a life is the ultimate in being a hero. Both of these kids are heroes in every sense of the word. Deputy Susan Bailess and Deputy Paul Fleming presented the awards to the Moody children in a brief ceremony at their home. Deputy Bailess said, These kids did everything right which enabled saving their mother. Jeff credits his lifesaving skills to the Boy Scouts. |
