Brent Huish, Magna Water Manager, sent a notice to clarify the specifics. A resolution establishing changes in the rates for water and sewer services here, was officially adopted last week by the board of trustees for the Magna Water and Sewer Improvement District. According to a spokesman for the the district the changes were made to establish fair rates for monthly water and sewer services, and to provide owner liability for services rendered. The new rates will become effective on April 1st. For water users within the Magna Improvement District the cost will be $6.60 per month, or 22 cents per day, for the first 6,000 gallons of water used, based on a 30 day month, amounts over 6,000 gallons will be 65 cents for ever additional 1 ,000 gallons of water For metered water usage by commercial and school users, the minimum charge for 8,000 gallons of water will be 38 cents per day, based on a 30 day month. Amounts over 8,000 will cost 40 cents per 1,000 gallons. The resolution also stated that if the commercial or school account does not have a sprinkling meter, an average of winter use, or other appropriate formula as determined by the district, may be assessed through the summer months of May through September. However, if usage other than sprinkling cannot be fairly determined, the user may be required to install a sprinkling meter, and all meters must be purchased and installed at the expense of the user. In addition, all wastewater tests to determine compliance with Magna Water Companys wastewater regulations will be done at the expense of the water user. The board will also set rates proportionate to the service rendered to special users and other unclassified units of users, as are recommended by districts consulting engineers, The resolution also stated that the or rented premises , owner of leased will be primarily liable for all water and sewer services furnished to the tenants of the owner. However, upon request of the owner, billing for water and sewer services may be sent direct's ly to the tenant or tenants, but the t separate billing, metering, use of te-- 1 nant deposits, or guarantees will not 1 affect the liability of the owner for ; water or sewer services rendered to an owner for his tenants. the j The Head Start kids had their annual St. Patricks Day parade. The same rates will also apply to private dwellings that have apartments built in, with each family charged separately. With regard to the sewer rates for users within the district, the minimum rate either metered or unmetered, will be 38 cents a day or $1 1 .40 per month, based on a 30 day month, for a single family unit. Young children in our modem society probably suffer First Presidency Easter Message The First Presidencyof the Church Saints has' of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y issued the following Easter message: The Easter season is a sacred time of remembrance and of gratitude for the sufferings, atoning sacrifice, and glorious resurrection of the Savior Jesus Christ. The glory of Easter is the Risen Savior, the Light and the Life of the world. He triumphed over death and dispelled the deep darkness of the crucifixion on Calvary. He arose from the grave in power and beauty and life, the first fruits of all who slept, the assurance for all mankind of all ages that as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. (I Corinthians 15:22.) Through his divine sacrifice, Jesus Christ became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him. (Hebrews 5:9.) To the solemn witness of the holy scriptures, ancient and modem, we add our declaration: We worship Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. He lives; He is the Son of God. He came to earth as the Only Begotten of the Father, fulfilling through His suffering in Gethsemane and upon the cross, the atoning sacrifice by which all mankind may be saved. This Easter and throughout the year, may we have uppermost in our minds His divine teachings, the unparalleled example of His pure love, and His willing sacrifice of self to accomplish the holy purposes of God, the Eternal Father. (L-- Easter can be a rebirth for the Magna Community Easter is a time of spring, a time to wear new clothes, a time to hunt for eggs and eat too much candy, and a time to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In Magna, kids will be hunting easter eggs at the Recreation Center at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The VFW is sponsoring another hunt at Copper Park on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. for the area children. Most of the schools celebrated by wearing funny hats, or with colorful drawings. Most of the area churches will have special Easter ceremonies or readings. Many families get together for an Easter Sunday meal or for a visit to Grandmas house. The words new, birth, and rebirth are all akin to Easter. One good way to celebrate the holiday is to give Magna a rebirth by getting your yard cleaned up in preparation for Magnas effort on April 8th. A big clean-u- p new paint job, a clean yard, a new look on your block would be better for your neighbors than a visit from the Easter Bunny. Dont be the rotten Easter Egg on your block join in and clean up. If you want to get involved in the parade or community Bonnie Stahle at clean-u- p call 250-565- 6. Some Easter insights In 325 A.D. the Council of Nicaea set the date of Easter to fall on the first Sunday following the first full moon .after the vernal equinox. The word Easter was named after the Anglo-Saxo- n goddess of spring. There is also some connection of the word and the rising of the sun in the east. The Easter Rabbit was actually the Easter Hare and not the rabbit. The hare was born with its eyes open, unlike the rabbit born with its eyes shut. The hare symbolized the moon which never blinks. The hare and the egg were also symbols of the Anglo-Saxo- n goddess of spring. The Easter Egg symbolizes new life, new beginnings. An old Latin proverb states all life comes from the egg. The custom of wearing new clothes at Easter time comes from the fact that March was once celebrated as the New Year and people wore new clothes to symbolize new beginnings. In ancient times when someone was baptized, they wore white, others wore new clothes in memory of their own baptisms. the most because of these conditions. The early learning process at home is broken up and kids often lack those basic skills that are needed to start school. One program that gives a real advantage to some of these children is the Head Start program. Magnas Head Start shares quarters with the Magna Community Action Center at 3041 South 8560 West and the two groups help the overall needs of those who have hit hard times or lack adequate income to handle basic needs. Editorial: Community crossfire The victims of war are never the instigators Looks are deceptive this quiet looking neighborhood has been a hotbed for feuds and the slaughter scene of Branden Greenlands rabbits. r itwl KIM FOLSOM Magna Times Assistant Editor Shadows of the night stand proud in the darkness as they celebrate their accomplishments: a broken hearted boy, and the sick slaughter of some innocent rabbits. There are some leads in the case, according to Jack Hill of the Salt Lake County Sheriffs department, who has been investigating die bizarre murder of 17 prize rabbits owned by Magna teenager Branden Greenland. The incident took place in the dark hours of Sunday morning, March 12th. The ferocity of the crime emphasizes the sick nature of those who committed it. Some of the rabbits heads were decapitated, others bashed in, and the rest of the rabbits were stabbed. Unfortunately, Branden had to be the one to find his rabbits strewn around in the blood. The Saturday before the incident one of Brandens rabbits won best in show at a local competition. A number of the rabbits killed were show winners and champions. Originally, the rabbits were given to Branden as an incentive to do better in school. He is now a model student with a B plus average. There has been a running neighborhood feud going on for the last two years over some dogs and the rabbits. It started when a neighbors dog killed three rabbits. After a time, Dale Greenland took the dogs owner to court to get compensation for the lost rabbits and this action got some of the other neighbors upset. Recently a stray dog got into the rabbits and Mr. Greenland shot it. According to Dale Greenland, he tried to remove the dog first but could not and he felt the rabbits were in danger so he finally shot the dog. He did not endanger any neighborhood children, believe that shooting the dog would Some of his neighbors felt the action was unnecessary and endangered the children. Mr. Greenlands action was questionable but if the slaughter of the rabbits was in retaliation for that deed there was no justification punishing a boy for his fathers action. Until the sheriffs office finds those responsible for killing the rabbits justice wont be seen. But, it is plain to see that a number of adults on both sides of the issue have let things get out of hand by their lack of human kindness. Branden wants to raise his rabbits again as soon as things clear up. He is not festering on what has happened in the past even though he has been the one most injured. Some adults may learn something by taking a look at Brandens maturity. j |
