Nuclear Forces the International a enough, newspaper called wasnt Treaty Philadelphia Building a Team Football fans, especially those of teams that finished out of the running this season, are looking to the future. Theyre asking themselves how their team can rebuild or improve before the 1988 season. Trades, of course, are one answer. But the real key to building a team is through the annual draft of college football players. Fan interest in the draft has grown to the point that it is now televised. Team decisions are instantly met with fan cheers or groans. It's one day when the spotlight is on each teams organization, and recognition is given to the fundamental truth that good teams decoaches and players. pend on more than the The president and general manager are critically important to building a solid team. Having too many veterans in their When I joined the Bears we had a lot of players from the 1963 championship team who got old overnight. I think this may have happened to the Dallas Cowboys. They have several veteran players who had offseasons in 1987. Tony Dorsett. for example, doesn't fit into the Cowboys' plans because Herschel Walker is there and he's bigger, stronger and faster. A year ago the Cowboys could have traded Dorsett for a top player or a high draft choice. But now he's coming off a bad season. and other teams are going to question how much he has left. Dallas probably waited a year too long. They may get little or nothing for him. The alternative to building through the draft is the George Allen veterans. To give method, trading away draft choices for him credit, he got the Washington Redskins to the Super Bowl. But I don't think it is a good way to build a team. You are trading away the future. If you don't do it in two years, you're in real trouble. The players you traded for get old and there is no way to replace them. I think you have to do it through the draft. The Pittsburgh Steel-er- s did it very well during the 70s. and won four Super Bowls as a result. The Chicago Bears have done it through the 80s which is reflected by four Divisional titles and a Super Bowl victory in 1983. It takes longer using the draft but that's the only way to build a solid team that will continue to w in over a long period ol time. The newspaper had been told by someone at Hercules that we have a state championship chess team. But I sincerely doubt that they would play us. But, if the Russians are willing, I.E., anxious to verify Hercules participation in the International Nuclear Forces Treaty by traveling 7,000 miles, they might be willing to do Cyprus chess team the honor of a match. Why notv. The worst theyd probably do is have a close call. Of course, the Cyprus team IS the defending state champion. And the Pirates have lost only one match in three years. This includes standing. sitting and lying postures. When you stand, your head should be over your shoulders such that your ear lines up with the tip of your shoulder. You should have a slight hollow in your back called a lordosis, while maintainiing slight abdominal tone. Keeping this hollow in your back as well as the above head posture, is important when you sit. Using a rolled towel at your waist while sitting helps maintain this posture curve in your spine. During sleeping this can achieved by using a towel roll around the neck and waist. These rolls support the normal curve in your spine. Flexibility Your spine is designed to absorb the everyday shocks applied to it. However, as we age we lose flexibility if regular daily attention is not paid to maintaining good range of motion. The ligaments in your back, as well as the discs are weakened by prolonged pressure at the end of their range of motion. If we allow our spines to lose motion then these areas are under constant stress which weakens the ligaments and discs. attention to maintaining good posture at every opportunity, we do flexability exercises to insure that both tlexion and extension of the spine is maintained and we maintain good abdominal strength, then, when we ask our spines to take on stress it will be ready to do so for us. By the same token, if we abuse our spines on a daily basis, when we put our spines under pressure dike lifting. etc. ) the likelihood of failure is great.
