What n a proper period does is bring these functions safely back to normal and by cleaning reoxygenating your blood. Quit all at once, and blood flow stops as fast as you do, with the results being quick drop in blood pressure, and possibly fainting. Mikesell Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon NIGHT GRINDER Bruxism is the habitual grinding of the teeth, either during sleep or as an unconscious habit during waking hours. As many as five to over 20 percent of the population may be affected. One of the causes of bruxism is a mild irritation in the teeth resulting from a slight to severe interference in the normal matching of the teeth In children it is often noticed in the period of the change from baby to teeth. Gastrointestinal disturbances, undetected nutritional deficiencies allergies, or endocrine distrubances have also been mentioned as possible causes. This habit may also be inherited. Emotional tension may be expressed through a number of habits, including grinding or clenching. A person suffering from fear, rage, rejection, or a number of other forms of emotion, which cannot be expressed, hides them in the subconsious mind to be released periodically in any number of ways. Bruxism is particularly common in mental hospitals and is a manifestation of nervious tension in children, which may be expressed by chronic' biting or chewing of toys. Certain occupations also favor the development of bruxism. Athletes, watchmakers, and others whose work is either very physical or meticulous exhibit tendencies to bruxism. as simuar abit in people who chew f or gum. tobacco' or objects such as tooth picks pencils. Bruxism or grinding causes excessive wear on the teeth, injury to the supporting structures of the teeth, resulting in loosening or drifting of the teeth or loss of supporting bone and soft tissues. Temporomandibular joint injuries also occur. Treatment includes correction of emotional factors or change of habits, or removable splints that may be worn at night to stabilize the jaws or guide jaw movements to preserve the teeth and their supporting structures. Some of you, who are real fans, may remember Dusty Rhoades of the world champion New York Giants. Dusty was the premier pinch hitter on that famed team. It seemed that in every key situation, good old Dusty would come off the bench to crack a base hit and win the ball game. Then suddenly, and without warning, the pitchers started throwing him curves. The poor man, once a great hitter, was reduced to nothingness. His last words were these: I could be playing a game in Alaska and some Eskimo pitcher would come out of his igloo and throw me a curve. And so the curve ball got Dusty as well as a million other hitters. It even as you and I. paralyzed them SIMONS SAYS: The two most important things to a pitcher are good friends and a good curve ball. SIMONS SAYS: A lot of hitters go up and hit what they see; they cant see the curve ball so they come back. 1951 Granite School Board regular meeting 7:10 p.m. Invocation 7:15 p.m. Resolution for sale and bid opening $10,800,000 tax anticipation notes Briant Badger Page 3 7 : 25 p.m. Bus Safety Presentation 7:35p.m. Minutes Approval Minutes of the regular meeting of the Board of Education held June 18, 1985 7 :40 p.m. Citizen participation time 7 :55 p.m. Purchases 1. Have you ever seen one coming down the barrell at you? You really have to look the curve ball in the eye to appreciate how it looks when it comes right at your belly button and then ' , jumps into the strike zone. They can really paralyze you ; those good curve balls with some zing on themYou just cant always pull the trigger on the breaking pitch. It has you back on your heels, if you know what I mean. When I was walking up to the plate myself I would hold with the flame throwers, but those guys with the curve ball that looked like it had fallen off the table ; they were tough. They could freeze you a little. It has been said, by those in the know, that the curve ball low and away is the toughest of all pitches to hit. I agree with that and so do a lot of other strike out victims who have walked dejectedly back to the dugout after watching the big bender go by . When the count goes to three and one or two balls and no strikes a lot of hitters start thinking, here comes the fast ball, and they start digging in deep in the batters box and stuff like that. Thats the time to give them the good curve bah, to let fly with the snapper; the look on the face of the surprised hitter, when he sees that good curve is worth getting a sore arm. Now a good fast ball is an excellent pitch to have in your repertoire, if your a moundsman, but the curve is essential to keeping the hitters off balance. The fastest of all fast balls will sooner or later be timed and rocket off the bat to far away places, but the good curve will tie most hitters in It sort of paralyzes you, if you know what I mean. It was Birdie Tebbets who said, A good curve ball pitcher can make a manager look like a genius. The curve ball is very intimidating: it takes away your timing, your reaction time, your courage, and your batting st July 28, 1985 from 10a.m. to 5 p.m , the ARC and Alt City Cruisers will be presenting the third Annual Chanty car Show in the parking lot of Thrift Town, located at 3559 market Street, West Valley City. J BY DALE SIMONS Summer is baseball and baseball is summer. Its one of those important things like marriage or church or the Republican party. There really isnt much to playing baseball, you hit the ball and run, or you catch the ball or throw it. Baseball is an easy game, if you know how to play it. As Honus Wagner said, There aint much to being a ball player if youra ball player. Baseball starts in the street, or on the front lawn, or in a vacant field and graduates to the Little League, and sometimes even higher. You pass a park and hear the sounds of baseball, like hey batter, batter; and pitchers got a rubber arm. These are little boy thoughts that to make up the Sounds of Summer. To be a good baseball player you have to have a lot of little boy in you, cause baseball is a little boys game. Thats why big boys like Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth jump around when they hit a home run ; that s all hand that why slappin and huggin goes on at home plate cause ballplayers are little boys. You can enjoy baseball with no violence in your heart; you can love this great game easily ; just let the sport into the greenfields of your mind ; have a hot dog and a coke and youll love baseball. Baseball is beautiful the supreme performing art. It combines the best features of ballet, art, drama and ingenuity. Baseball is like life, full of challenge and disappointments. One wag said, baseball is six minutes of action crammed into two and one-hahours. I never look at it that way, having loved my time on the ballfield ; even the dust and the heat. Baseball gives its player-spa- ce both physical and emotional in which to express themselves. Theoretically, a game of baseball can go on forever, and some seem to, but to me time stands still when your playing baseball. As Willie Stargell says, the Umpires say play ball, they dont ever say work ball. So lets play. The crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd, the dull thud of the ball in the catchers mitt, all are the Sounds of Summer; the hot dog vtendor and the cry of peanuts-- get your fresh roasted peanuts here. These are the sounds of baseball. These are sounds I love to hear. The head-firslide, a line drive between the outfielders, the umpire yelling, your out; even a know-it-asitting next to you and a tough loss; thats baseball, thats the Sounds of Summer and you ought to be part of it. lf workout, you create a milking effect on the blood vessels which makes it easier for your heart to perform its cleanup. Cool-of- f should consist of mild, rhythmic exercise of gradually diminishing intensity not only easy jogging and walking, but also restretching of muscles that hard effort tends to shorten. An ideal tapering-of- f session should include three to five minutes of slow, relaxed jogging, followed by several minutes of easy walking, followed by several minutes of stretching aimed at the muscles you have just worked the hardest.
