They have worked hard to restrict alcohol advertisements because liquor related problems among our youth are increasing each year. Since the courts suspended the National Association of Broadcaster's code, hard liquor ads are creeping back into broadcasting. An increasing number of violations are seen on television and radio. Distillers who belong to the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, a self regulatory body, are barred from using broadcast media to advertise hard liquor. These distillers who have not advertised for several decades should be commended. Those distillers who do not belong to the council are starting to (5) pinion IRsmsmbsr whsn? Enargy office reminds of fax Credit certificates Individuals wanting to receive tax credit certification for their renewable energy system investments by the April 15 tax return filing deadline must submit their applications to the Utah Energy Office no later than March 20, according to State Renewable Resource Manager Kevin Gillars. The Utah Energy Office, an agency of the Department of Natural Resources and Energy, experienced a four-fol- d increase in tax credit applications this January as compared to the same time last year. The Utah Energy Office received 125 applications in January, 1983. In contrast, only 22 tax credit applications were received in January 1982. To date, the Utah Energy Office has reviewed more than 250 applications for the 1982 tax year. The Utah Energy Systems Tax Credit grants a ten percent tax credit for investment in renewable energy systems such as passive and active solar, wind and hydro energy up to $1,000 for residential applications and up to $3,000 for commercial applications. Coupled with the 40 per violate the traditional ban. Vodka ads are being shown in some areas of the country on MASH television programs. Vodka is also being advertised on radio in the Chicago area and has been advertised in the Massachusetts area. Breweries advertise for one reason and one reason only and that is to sell a product. Otherwise they wouldnt spend the large amounts of money in media service that they presently spend. Increased advertising may lead to a higher evidence of alcohol related problems. cent federal renewable energy tax credit, there is a substantial incentive for renewable energy investment. Additionally, Utahs tax credit law offers a casn remittance from the State Tax Commission' if an individuals tax credit exceeds his or her tax liability. Gillars attributes the increase in system certification applications to higher energy costs, increased use and effectiveness of renewable energy technologies, and a greater awareness of the tax credit benefits. The applications are in various states of review, Gillars says, but as long as the application is received by March 20, there should be no problem in certifying qualifying systems for the 1982 period. The number of system certifications has steadily risen since the Utah State Legislature approved the tax credit in 1980. More than 330 systems were approved for the 1980 tax period and 577 were approved for 1981. Im confident the number will go , well beyond that for 1982, Gillars stated.
