The primary goal being to advocate safe, decent, and sanitary housing for every person in the state. Other goals are to establish local tenant associations in the state to advocate tenants rights and responsibilities, to work closely with officials to effect housing laws and health codes, and to try to improve the archaic system of landlord and tenant. During the months of January and February 1975, the USTO was concerned with the passage of the Residential Landlord Tenant Act. This act has been subsequently defeated by the strong opposition of real estate interests on the hill The USTO feels that the original bill would have been very advantageous and fair to both the landlord and tenant. The bill, for the most part, spelled out the responsibilities and rights of both parties. In Utah, where 40 percent of the population are tenants in some capacity and many more are landlords, there are very few laws to govern the obligations and rights of the tenant and the landlord. Although this bill was defeated, the tenant organization sees a need for clearer laws on the landlord-tenan- t relationship, and will support future fair legislation. brot- hers, sisters, Organization mirrors the goals of its parent body, the Members of the Board of Directors for the Utah State Tenant Organization are: Rev.
