Show FROM FRIENDS IN NEW ZEALAND southland now new Z sal ial nd dd july 3 1395 1895 please permit me to use a little 0 of the adach in your valuable paper I 1 am not ut of a literary turn of mind but I 1 feel eel that a little good might come rom drawing the attention of the latter day saints to a tow few facts in re gard to their duty to u their friends and relations relation to in the world it seems to be it a part of human nature to forget all friends and faces and to replace them by new ones especially Is this the case when people go to foreign countries to make their homer people leave the old european countries and go to new places such a the part of the states canada and the colonies and in a low few years yeara they forget to write to the old friends left ift behind As time rolls on changes change are made such as moving to other settlements settlement etc addresses are lost and nu effort made to recover them and com commini muni cation ceases altogether the people of utah are no exception to we the rule neither do I 1 think they are given to this sort of thing thine more than people of other places still this evil if I 1 may term it such is fis a tumbling stumbling block in the path of the emers elders too in preaching the gospel it Is ie commonly revor reported ted that when people accept the gospel and nd go to utah they are not allowed to openly correspond with their old friends and vat all letters letter must pan an inspection in by the authorities of the church before they are permit permitted tea to leave the country and the negligence of the people in writt writing ng to trends and relatives ivea gives color to these reports roe rhe litter jay saints have hundreds of missionaries in the world endeavoring to spread the gospel of jesus christ the general way of bringing the gospel before the people is toy by distributing tracts and in many instances me itie elders can ill III afford to purchase the neo nece ebsary beary traits still they labor on man manfully tully facing many hardships arid and trials dolog doing without many of the necessaries es of lite life that they may spin out their little mite and make it to do all it can to enable them to reach the people ano and when the elder does so how often be is met with this reproach and Is ia informed that the people to whom be oas just offered a tract want none of touch doctrine as his and all because some rome friend or relation had gone to utah and then neglected to ta write these facts before the people I 1 will ask them to consider the amount of aid they could give to the work of spreading the gospel ll it they were corresponding their and would send fiend them a good book or a tow ew tracts now and again or both and send regularly the and other church publications the cost 0 oat of so doing would be trivial these are papers that every latter day saint should read regularly aud in order to do so they must of course be subscribers after they have read them send bem out into the world to friends and it you SOY any friends out in he world send end them to some one that to not 11 ot your friend they will be read with interest by scores of people this would cost about 6 cents a month for sob aoh paper and it would be waking making better use of them than to read them and then use them to light the fires with and the goad that could thus be accomplished cannot be estimated for there is in no limit to it I 1 trust that these few biota bents may in duce someone that tbt nas has more atil ability lity in ia this llie lie than I 1 to take up the cause and urge ure out oui people to consider it tor the good that could be done in this wiy way can not be over estimated there to is a growing interest interesting inte in the gospel in indis abis part of the world and I 1 am compelled to say may like our captain 0 of 1 f old abe harvest in ripe but the laborer borers are few pl if brother willia n sarle or some of his bis family will send end me their address I it will rob you of much of your cono conceit elt as it did me when I 1 was compel compelled ltd to ask him to take it easy he was born on the plaine and he be can travel as thaul lie ho had baa roamed over them ever since when we reached the large bridge in the gorge we went on the cart road instead of the railroad after having walked two or three miles down the canyon we were informed that the oradge near ashurst bad been carried carrle ij away and that we could not reach to tow wo u that way thus we were oo 00 iu polled to retrace our lur steps and start stan down the track we were very uncertain that we could got get through that thai way but concluded to risk it there were huge bugs slips to bridges to cross and long dark tua tunnels lnell to grope through finally we reached ashurst As burat burst where we round brother Brothe rADd and sister wilson who made us very comfortable for table after getting a change of clothing and eating a nice hot supper we spent a pleas int the trains were now dow ruining rui ning again at ac usual and on friday Ff idy the 1911 we went by rail to wellington there president gardner was detained on business and add it was decider that
