meet Adams next week when he visits the district Wednesday through Friday Many in the district did not get to meet him when district officials announced his appointment May 12 because he returned to Oregon early Adams was selected from among 20 candidates who applied for the job Bates who has served on the Jackson County board for eight years said that he and the other board members were not surprised to learn of Adam’s selection “We’ve been worried that he was going to leave for two or three years” Bates said He was on the search committee that named Adams to their board in Oregon back in 1993 Bates feels that Adams will thrive in his new situation “He’s personable and does a good job of building a consensus” Bates said “He also believes in raising the standards and gets out in the classroom” Other finalists were: Cathy Ortega Ogden’s assistant superintendent of educational services and Paul Waite director of secondary schools in the Davis School District A selection committee made up of parents students teachers district employees and community members interviewed the three finalists and gave lists of strong and weak points of each finalist to the school board After interviews with each fi- nalist the school board selected Adams He will be paid a salary of $95000 It’s been whispered that current superintendent Mike Paske-wic- z and Dick Foster a school district
