makeshift house next to an airport and beneath a set of power lines but they fight to keep it from being demolished for an airport expansion project The film pokes fun at this simple family but in a way that’s not demeaning In fact you’ll find yourself applauding their efforts laughing with them and not at them While it is rated R for language it’s fairly and hardly the offensive variety One of Southern town Cookie is an aging matriarch who lives in the past She is protected by one man and surrounded by conniving relatives who want her alleged fortune Patricia Neal gives a brief but memorable performance as Cookie The film is one of the best of the year so far 118 minutes Layton Tinseltown CRUEL INTENTIONS 12 (R) Brief nudity language and strong sexual content This fourth adaptation of the 1 8th century French novel “Les Liaisons Dangereuscs” (Dangerous Liaisons) brings a host of young talent to this story of sexual conquest and revenge Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) plays the manipulating Kathryn and Ryan Phillippe plays the love stud Sebastian Valmont The film has a polished look and clever dialogue but is too verbally graphic for the target audience 97 minutes
