Show THE MINISTERS SPEAK SALT SAL T LAKE L CITY C aty J jan a n 2 9 1895 in accordance letb their I 1 herewith el cluse a copy of we b paper adopted by the ministers on monday concerning the be lection election fraud tor for publication in your paper respectfully yours R P U ACTION OF THE MINISTERS THE ELECTION FRAUDS at a meeting of the ministers mini aten on monday january 28 b the following unanimous anani action was waa taken whereas the stability of our free government depends upon thorough honesty in the conduct of elections and lionet ity in the counting of the ballots by bj which questions of government are decided and whereas the returns of 01 the election on november jtb 1894 for to the convention as given by the judges of the various election precincts inor appear to have been honestly given as is evidenced by the tact fact th that the general result was contrary to the political wishes of the majority of the precinct judges therefore resolved L that the ministers and also citizens of utah in behalf of of good government and good morals morale hereby v condemn the dishonest and villainous attempt to defraud the people of utah of their just rights by the plan to count out in four or five counties the candidates who were elected as delegates to the constitutional convention ven tion as shown by the returns of the various election precincts and to count in those who were not elected resolved 2 that this most arbitrary and dishonest attempt to introduce into our utah elections at the very be beginning begioni ginni ng of our existence as a state stale those infamous methods which have cursed other parts of the count country ry deserves the indignant condemnation of all worthy and patriotic citizen and the sooner such citizens meet together in public assembly to express their indignation the better since dishonest men in official position fear nothing so much as the open condemnation of honest voters resolved 3 that we hereby urge patriotic and upright citizens of all parties arties to see to it that the men who gave have been engaged in this most iniquitous attempt to defraud the people ot of utah of their rights at the ballot box shall not hereafter be elected to any office of honor or trust in utah until they give evidence of thorough repentance and reformation resolved 4 that in thu the name ot of outraged justice and civil liberty we call upon the prosecuting attorney to do his duty by using his bis energy and all the resources of just law to bring to deserved punishment those who have been engaged in the criminal business of attempting to defraud the people by dishonest manipulation of the election returns and dishonest tam tampering poring with the ballot boxes S G adams S E wishard W S hawkes J D gillilan james F bests beates R G P F L arnold dana W bartlett josiah mcclain J D nutting W A hough E G hunt B F clay J B lister R cason clarence T brown goorge E jayne W B mabry T 0 iliff |
