| Show THE missionary FIELD AARHUS january 1895 I 1 was called to go on a mission jan loth 1894 to start for scandinavia march the 3rd ard in obedience to the call I 1 now find myself in in the beautiful city of aarhus denmark on november irth 1 I together with brother william sorensen from glenwood sevier county was called by bv our worthy president theodore pete petersen i arsen from logan cache county to go down on what they call west jutland and hold a meeting we have a family of saints who recently moved down there and they made arrangements for a meeting to be held at their home the time and place ot of the meeting feeling w was as publicly made known but nothing was sai said about who were to be the preachers at the appointed time the house w was packed and many were compelled to return home an opportunity of preaching the gospel was thus given after meeting we gave an opportunity to all present to ask us any questions that might be proper pertaining thour to our faith and many took advantage of this privilege at twelve at night some were still inquiring into the truths of the gospel and then stated bated before leavi leaving ilg us that if the bible bibi is is true so is mormonism the next evening the house was again packed we spoke upon the restoration of the gospel and the first principles pertaining thereunto also bore our testimony that joseph I 1 smith was a prophet of the living god the name seemed to startle them for they had bad heard everything but good g about joseph smith after meeting we continued as the night before in answering questions pertaining to the plan ot of life and salvation I 1 could not hel help but rejoice in the privilege which we hat had in in bearing our testimony to so many people who had never heard the gospel we now had to return to aarhus as we had other appointments apo ointments to meet six weeks later we learned that the power of the evil one had been at work A priest had been sent to the place to warn the people against us trying to prove that we were false prophets he advised his hearers not to open their doors for us basing such inhospitality on the lords prayer lead us not into temptation but the seed we had sown did not all tall fall upon stony paths by request ot of many we returned and held meetings again the clergy mans efforts against us made the people all the more anxious to hear us when we arrived at the home of brother knudsen we were agreeably surprised to find many smiling faces there people had corn come i e as far fair as eight miles through the drifting snow aud and all heartily welcomed us four I 1 meetings had been appointed for US 13 we felt that the spirit of god was with us in our meeting we explained the principles of of the gospel as we were led by the spirit in our remarks we bore testimony that god would reward evera V man according to his works and that the angel spoken ot of by john had visited the earth no sooner had we closed the meeting before a man in the audience arose and said in substance in standing before you 1 I lift ft up my voice against the false mormon priests and their devilish doctrine I 1 can take the bible and prove to you all that every word they have uttered here this even in ine is without foundation andersen referred to the revelation of john irth chapter 6 v which he had no right to do that t chapter belongs to those that are members of the holy church of 41 christ t which he thanked god he was the speaker then cited the three first verses verse s of said chapter he then remarked mark ed that he belonged to the hundred forty and four thousand that would mount zion with the lamb stand upon of god he continued calling god to witness that we were liars and deceivers and if we were not so he said the almighty might inflict all sorts of tortures upon him as tot for instance cut him up in pieces nieces and grind him into powder or run red hot irons through his flesh and burn him to ashes at this point he turned white as the new fallen snow and quivering and trembling he fell to his seat the bible was immediately handed to him but he refused to open it aal after ter a few remarks in our defense had been made another man in the audience arose said we had no right to gt that god will reward every man say according to his bis works we proved our right to do so with quotations from the scriptures an another other gentleman then stepped forward and said my friends 7 1 I belong to no sect but can bear my testimony that what those mormons cormons have said is the tv truth ath and they have proven their doctrine from the bible another said 1 I h have ave learned more in in hearing those mo mormon rmon elders one night than I 1 have learned in all my life going to hear bear our priest the result of all is is that some have LAI already asked to be baptized and many are investigating im resti gating the gospel our meetings are well attended by strangers as well as saints and a good spirit prevails among the saints who feel to con dinue in striving riving to do the will of our heavenly father and hold sacred the covenants which they have made JOSEPH P ANDERSEN |
