| Show ANOTHER FATALITY WM HARDY DIES SUDDENLY THIS MORNING 1 this morning the re residence of wm hardy s west temple street was the scene of considerable excitement at what was believed to be another case of suicide mr hardy retired last night at about 10 apparently in cheerful spirits short shortly I 1 y before 6 this morning homing the noise e wade made by his hia struggling straggling attracted d the attention of neighbors who rushed to bis hissom oom and found him gasping WK for breath and within wiehl a a short time death had claimed him as its vict victim lin au An empty bottle labeled laudanum found behind the washstand and another containing contain ine a 4 small quantity of the opiate caused those in attendance tp to conclude that the deceased baid taken poison this idea was strengthened se d by toe the fact he be has several times threatened self destruct destra tiou tion and on one occasion made tha attempt but was frustrated b by Y the timely services of a physician coroner george J taylor was notified and aad summoned as aa ja a jury af sars david james alfred solomon and edward T taylor these gentlemen began an investigation and from w what h at they could learn learn were not satisfied that the ibe deceased had been boned it was true that yesterday ge poisoned e had ad purchased ased one ue and a half ounces of laudau laudanum um and that the bottle had bad been emptied but the body showed no indications of poisoning the pupils of the eyes being natural after consulting with the dead man mans 8 friends an autopsy was decided on dr J T AL benedict was summoned and made a post mortem ex amma amina the resell wab wa that the doctor decla declared that there were no traces of laudau pm strychnine arsen arben ic or any other deadly diug in the stomach he found however that the heart lungs kidneys liver and stomach of the deceased were in IE L a badly diseased condition and expressed himself as surprised that under these circumstances cum stances es the man had bad lived as ion as he had this tn diseased condition 0 of the system had bad been brought about b by the excessive use ot of alco alcoholic holl c stimulants I 1 T the he deceased has been employed at different times as a waiter at the coutin continental tin hotel and walker house at one time tie he was waa head steward at the latter atter on several occasions he ost lost his bis position ou on account of his bis intemperate ein habits for a long lon tj time me he has aas been addicted to the use uie of liquor which brought himself pud end family a great amount of trouble he was 36 3 years of ape age last january mrs hardy th the e defendants wife has been confined to her bed for a month past and during that time her life has huns hung by a thread T to o days 0 occurrence had a terrible effect upon lit ht r and serious fears are entertained that she may not recover her maiden name was janet henry aud and her parents arents reside at wellsville cache bounty county she has three milel girls living livine the youngest abent foght eighteen e e a mo months old her financial circumstances are arc far irom from good and the P ful situation in which herself aad c kildren children are placed has called forth the sympathy of kind friends the body of the deceased will be interred tomorrow to morrow dr bowers corroborated the statement of dr benedict the Is the verdict of the jury TERRITORY OF UTAH county ot of salt lake I 1 an inquisition boaden at the residence of win hardy in the second precinct of salt lake NY city on the aoth day of august 1886 before george J taylor coroner of said county upon the bady of wm win hardy there lying dead by the jurors whose names are hereunto subscribed the said jurors on their oaths do say from the evidence presented that he died at hla his residence no west welt W est temple street salt lake city at af a io in august 25 A D from natural r al causes in testimony whereof the said jurors have hereunto set their hands bands the day arid year first above written david james jat nes alfred solomon and edward T taylor jurors J TAYLOR coroner |
