| Show SUICIDE FRED ROLFSON SHOOTS F at 2 30 pm p m yesterday thursday another of those shocking occurrences which send a thrill of horror through the community took place at stockton tooele thoele county at that hour frederic rolfson of this city committed suicide by shooting himself in the head on saturday last he be obtained a weeks vacation from mr S P at whose store he was employed on sunday he went to lake point and stayed staved with his brower erin in law adolph anderson and the next lay day went to stockton in company with harry hany the young men stayed there with mr jai james nes hughes 11 who keeps a store stoie at the time tima of the shooting mr was visiting T a friend mr I 1 hughes hughea was sitting at the stor edoor and mr rolfson was in his own room lying down to rest it was supposed bup posed su suddenly denly mr hughes was startled stait led by the report of a pistol shot and opening the door of the loom whence the sound proceeded saw the prostrate form of young rolfson on his left side on the bed A pistol lay on the floor and bi blood 0 ad was gushing from a ghastly wound in the right light temple harry was called and word of the awful occurrence sent to coroner meb ande de who came over from tooele thoele and held ri an an inquest the tidings were also telephoned to adolph An anderson aerson who communicated them to bent rolfson the decease ds brother who was working there mr rolfson Rolf sou the father was also at the Point but as there was a crowd of visitors mr anderson did n not deem it wisdom to notify him and mrs anderson until evening when they were overcome with th the awful news newa coroner McBride conducted an inquest I 1 and the jury returned a verdict that t the be deceased came to his death from a pistol shot fired by his own hand the weapon used belonged to mr hughes and was left in the room which tile deceased occupied it had lain there loaded and unused by the owner for a ion long time there were no papers found 74 upon ou the body to indicate why the act was committed or that it was premeditated nor had there been anything in i a the conduct of the deceased to indicate such a purpose on the contrary when speaking of the recent suicides the deceased strongly deprecated such deeds mr b S P in whose employ rolfson has been for twelve years past and has risen to a responsible position in the wholesale department of the store speaks in the highest terms of praise of the tae young man he was an industrious and efficient workman and as such his labors were ap a appreciated recia ted by his employer H his is beltt health has been rather delicates delica tet the only explanation that can be given of thea tha rash iash act I 1 is that it was committed during daring a fit of tem temporary tomp insanity we the body was brought in ox the utah nevada train this morning and taken to undertaker J W taylors to be prepared for interment the deceased was born at oster norway october 14 1858 and in 1865 came to nebraska in 1873 the family removed to utah where they have resided ever since the funeral will take taice place on sunday at the residence of the parents third east street between fifth and sixth south |
