Show OBITUARY NOTES THOMAS RALL HALL ST GEORGE june 15 1894 elder thomas hall of st george departed this life at pm ou on the eth of june of jaundice and other complicated ailments he was born in liverpool england september 1 1816 andaas the son aon of robert hall and elizabeth miller he married ann hughes december 31 1839 at hawarden N wales was baptized into the church by elder john taylor at liverpool england february 11 1840 and left england in J january annary 1844 on board the ship fanny together with the saints landing at new orleans on the catiti of march and arrived at nauvoo nancoo april 11 1844 on board the steamer maid of iowa he arrived in utah in 18 5 2 and 1 located in salt lake city for a few years while there he acted as one ot of the special pollee police force in 1856 he was called on a mission to the las vegas gold mines then in southern utah and after being released from this mission and only being home for eight bight days he was called at the april conference 1857 on a mission to canada and was a captain of ten in the noted handcart company of missionaries who made the extremely arduous and fatiguing journey of upwards of 1000 miles to the missouri river after his return in 1858 to salt lake he moved to 10 Mil iville cache county april 1860 where he remained until unfit he was callea called on a mission to southern utah in 1866 locating his bla home in st george where be remained until his death he also filled a miss mission iori to great britvic to obtain genealogical data for himself and wife to which he was set apart by the late president john taylor while in st george the last time this mission he fulfilled with credit preaching ig from time to time as opportunity offered he was ordained a seventy april 1845 in the sixth quorum at nauvoo which office he held until the of june 1892 when he was ordained into the highe high priests quorum he was the father of 8 children and leaves 40 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren he died strong in the faith bearing his testimony to the truth of this work to the last he was quite resigned and willing to be released from his suffer sufferings inis the funeral services cervices vices were held at the tabernacle conducted by counselor george jarvis of the first ward the speakers elders alders william fawcett john barid david H cannon and D D mcarthur made taken laken to the hospital by his parents on the ath dinst where an operation was performed by dr pinkerton with the hope that the afflicted young man might regain his health but the destroyer had too strong a hold and he gradually sank until his spirit took its flig flight tit he was born september and died in full faith and fellowship in the gospel he was a young man who possessed fine ability and bade fair to become a bright star among the noble sons of god his remains were followed to their last resting place bv a host of sympathizing friends the funeral services service were conducted by G andersen kind and consoling remarks were made by elders A ericksen A G johnson and F M lyman the latter delivering an able and highly biilly interesting discourse on death and the arances their generations will be soon gathered to the other side another of our bur venerable friends has passed to the great beyond elder eider james crossley has been a faithful true adherent to the gospel for nearly fifty years he was the son ot of james and sarah crossley and was born bom june 1 1816 at barax Saddle work yorks england on the of february 1836 he hd wife hannah whiston who bore him bin two children both died young and on april their mother followed them to the great beyond on april 16 1840 james jamea crossley entered the second time into matrimony with mary jarvis jar vis the issue of this marriage was nine children only four ot of whom are now living on january 8 1846 he was baptized into the church chum h of jesus christ of latter day saints shortly afterwards in the same year he was ordained an elder and appointed 1 grealie preside over the radcliffe Bad oliffe branch of tl hurb church I 1 which position he held ais act faithfully filled until november 24 laff 1 on the last named date he sailed troi liverpool on board the clara wheel there were on board latter day gaii saint bound for new orleans As soon as the entered the irish channel they e exper P e encode terribly rough weather wr wit stormy adverse winds the ship b about in the troughs of the sea until tl last day of the month when the capt captan was compelled to bout ship and n turn to port they rested there until t ath of december when they again put pot 1 sea with tresh fresh supplies of provisions an water and with better prospects ot of fal fain weather but shortly after leaving n pen the measles broke out with sad and fatalis fa among the company resulting in th death of twenty one children and avi t adult persons they landed lit in N aft orleans on the alth of january la 18 iga prom from the last named port they cog tinned their journey to st lou louis 31 route for utah on the steamboat oc el after arriving in salt lake jami is crossley first settled in sessions se ment 11 in 1857 he removed willard box elder county 0 o engaged engaged in farming until I 1 1951 he then pulled up stakes and moy rao south with the people generally from afe north on october 26 1868 he carrl mary bentley by whom he had chri th children who still survive him on or ma 1880 his wife mary jarvis died I 1 the fall of that year he came to og ogda and has continued his bis residence here
