Show written for far this SOUTHERN STATES MISSION following folio vine Is 18 the report of the southern states mis mission slon made to president wilford woodruff by rider elder kimball having finished finis hedl my labors in the southern states I 1 desire to make ft a written report trusting that it will her be satisfactory and meet with your approval the mission is lu iu excellent condition and in no other time since 1877 has there been as good an op opportune opp tty by for there are efflow ent elders laboring in the south and they jare are them the best beat qualified laborers the mission minion has ever had at any anyone one time there is not a sick elder at present writing we find that about twelve per benr of the elders are arb honorably released on amount account of sick sickness brethren over ever forty years old in almost every in stance are released on account of bf III health before the two years expire and we can only remember of one mau man or of that age remaining that long the elders are laboring in 1 n 68 counties during the three years that I 1 have presided 98 counties have been systematically canvassed from house to house village to village and eity city to city said counties are closed for the present at least there are 1160 1150 counties in the th twelve southern states with a population of between sixteen and seventeen million people by a great deal of hard bard work we have ascertained that counties have been labored in to some extent since 1877 and during that time elders have labored la ID the south by this his we conclude that not one third of the people ever heard the gospel the last quarterly report shows that we have a total of 1859 members twelve branches branched and six sunday schools the following report will give sib an dea of the labors of the mission fronk jan let 1894 to 0 april 1894 pairs of elders walked miles meetings held families visited refused entertainment one out of every five families baptisms will increase to or during the year 71 tracts distributed this will complete my report aud and in conclusion I 1 will state staff that I 1 am one hundred fold rewarded for my labors and thank you very much for the good counsel and many acts of kindness extended tome to me allot all of which I 1 appreciate rider elder elias elian S kimball my sac JIM ceasor is now familiar with his bis duties the missions uPs finance is all right andl the debts all paid at chattanooga we have many influential friends and find a most remarkable change in our favor ever praying for your welfare aal that of our brethren of the authorities I 1 remain your brother in the gospel etc J G |
