Show SUNDAY SCHOOL MEETING the regular monthly ine meeting eting of sabbath school workers of the salt lake stake of zion was wa hold held oo on M monday on evening the dinst in the fourteenth ward meeting house the meeting was presided pre elded over by stake superintendent T C griggs the ringing singing for the occasion W waa by the twenty first ward choir under the direction of bro thomac thom tyre prayer waa was offered by brother joseph A mayne the calling of the roll showed unwed there more were representatives from seventeen of the city wards wardi and from brighton forest dale dais and south sough district big cottonwood bishop william thorn of the seventh ward addressed add reed the meeting for a few moments he sold he was waa interested la in the sunday school cause and considered it profitable for persons of his age as a well as a the youth to attend sabbath school chool parents he mid id bould oot not send end their children to sunday school merely to got get them out oat of their way they should hould take a greater in them and help them during the week to prepare their les le sons on lor for the sabbath morning th they 1 le wore were hold held reston responsible sible for their c children b ir and should bould seek reek to train them in the way they should hould go elder joseph E taylor said aid he be was wai deeply interested in the sunday school chool work he alwy always made it a point to attend sunday school chool wherever he happened to be on a sunday morning there were certain qualifications neo euary to make a success in teach lag ing many of the qualifications qualification can be acquired by cultivation by study and practice in some ome theological classes questions were sometimes brought up that wre ware not appropriate for such places the aim should be in these classes to teach sueh such principles caples as can be understood alike by the whole class and not to advance ideas ideal that sie aie only under stood by a few who are always reaching out for new doctrines A spirit of skepticism seemed to be exhibited in some localities more noticeable among the young men those inclined to be skeptical should not be ridiculed nor neglected they should be labored with in a kindly spirit things they do not understand should be explained to them he had bad heard complaints made by some bishops that sunday school workers in some instances neglected deflected to attend the sacrament meetings in their wards because the sacrament is administered in the sunday school people should not take license from this to absent themselves vea from their sacrament aeeti n a elder john morgan of the general of sunday scho hoole ec oh referred briefly to the organization and growth of the deseret sunday school union in relation to sunday school teaching he be said we should not overlook the important matter of presenting the practical living principles of the gospel to our pupils and not con d fine ne ourselves oure elves too closely to teaching barei bar moral emoral precept sIt eIt to is possible for us to confine our teachings to more mere moral lessons that our pu pupils pile will be unable to distinguish our teachings from those of the christian world in general the world for six thousand years b has been taught morality bat but the eving principles of the gospel have not been understood avid and hence the world is no better today than it was wai in post past axes altee superintendent griggs suggested that teachers be as practicable a aa pos poe ible and always give their understand that it is the practicing the principles of the gospel which will be of benefit and not the more mere under standing of them he urged sunday school workers not to neglect their other duties on the sabbath the sugar house ward sabbath school was announced to furnish the musical exercises for the next meeting after singing ringing by the choir the meet ing adjourned for one mouth moate benediction by supa supt george alder E F assistant stake secretary |
