furniture and supplies supplier EQUITY IN IM INSURANCE close cannon asked that in the taking out of fire insurance policies on school buildings their company be not forgotten or ignored committee on sites rites and buildings FOR FOB LEGAL ADVICE williams van cott attorneys sent in a bill for for legal services rendered the board flum march idt 1st of the present year up to december committee on finance A CONTRACT AWARDED on motion of dooly the contract to construct water closets for the eleventh ward school for 1027 was wag awarded to ellerbeck Eller beok WARD WABD SITE in the matter of the bid for the seventeenth ward school site the committee on sites and buildings reported that the seventeenth ecclesiastical ward association had offered for the site referred to sod and recommended that the president and clerk of the board be authorized to execute a quitclaim deed to the said association laid on the table lable for one week HEAVY CLAIMS the committee on sites and bull buildings d submitted the following to the honorable board of education Gent gentlemen leinen your committee on sites and buildings beg to submit the following report on bills ot of R kletting architect hereto attached bill of december ath eleventh school bryant 3 per cent of for a complete lete set of drawings for a two story addition to eleventh school now complete and recommend that said amount be paid on condition that he receipt in full for services rendered on said building bill august nineteenth school washington for plans as per agreement 1000 1000 we recommend that 60 per cent of this amount e now paid 15 per cent when building is roofed and 25 per cent when building is accepted bill august twentieth school lowell S per cent of the cost of twentieth school building exclusive of heating and ventilating apparatus you will observe that this bill to is rendered exclusive of heating beating and ventilating apparatus in conversation with the architect he claimed that he is entitled to a percentage upon the cost of the heating and ventilating apparatus as well as the cost and conist construction ruction of the sewer lateral your committee recommend that he be not allowed the percentage claimed on the heating and ventilating apparatus abild an d sewer laterals literals late rals first lor for the reason that he be is not entitled to itt it and that thai such charge has been made by no other architect connected with the school buildings and second for the reason that no plans for the heating healing and ventilating and sewer connections made by him have been accepted they recommend that in lieu thereof he be now paid 75 per cent of the and 25 per cent when the building is completed competed and accepted provided that in consideration of such amounts he receipts in full to this board for services rendered on said building he also submits another bill for for plans furnished for the addition to the eleventh school and services rendered in the years 1891 and 1892 which plans were not used by this board inasmuch as an some ot of the members of this committee were not on the board at the time this bill is alleged to have been contracted they submit same without recommendation preferring that the merits of the claim should be decided by the entire board in thus submitting it your committee wish to call your attention to the fact that they have recommended m ended the payment in full of for plans furnished in lieu of those for which this amount is claimed your committee further recommend that in view ot of the annoyance of this controversy regarding architects compensation that for all future buil buildings dingi that contract contra c t be made and executed with architects that will preclude the presentation of these claims in presenting this report your committee would also call your attention to the fact that all architects that have made plans for this board have been obliged to revise remodel and resubmit them before they were finally accepted and in no case has any bill been presented they consider that the allowance of this amount would establish a precedent that in i n their judgment would be gunj unjust not ta to other architects and incur an outlay which your committee believes would be unjust adopted on a vote of 6 to 4 THE NEW DISTRICT the some same committee reported as follows with reference to tn the recently reports outstanding warrants amounting to which they consider a liability of the board they allege that this amount is the aggregate of all the liabilities of the district yur Y ur committee is in informed that all of the said raid sixty sixth district is annexed to this city except about eighty acres in the southwest corner thereof your committee is of the opinion that the board is the successor in interest of the said sixty sixth district and is entitled to its assets and should after the said assets have been received pay its liabilities as heretofore stated they recommend that no payment be made on account of the said liabilities until the amount be received from the county comity collector we are also informed that the said eighty sores acres of the sixty sixth district was by the county court annexed to the twenty ninth district on december 6 5 1892 your committee recommends that the matter be referred to the atto attorney ruey of the board with instructions to demand said district as per the last school census if such deman I 1 to is in compliance with law your committee cammi atee is of the opinion that if this board is legally bound tor for the liability of the district that should receive its assets adopted thu the a s me committee reported that there was an e of on school furniture in the same district on first school and a ad on second and third schools sad and that the poll cles be assigned to the board of education that the first schoolhouse can be rented for 10 per month with recommendation men dation that it be secured at the same rental for the balance of the year that school no 2 be discontinued sod and the insurance be to cover the furniture therein wherever it may be removed that the third school in th the lincoln eLincoln park subdivision be continued at a rental of 12 per mouth month for the building adopted Adopt edL IN A dilapidated CONDITION the same committee to whom was referred the communication of hyrum P folsom and others relative to in sufficient accommodations condition of buildings etc reported as follows follone fol lowe first we found the building in a very dilapidated condition with five large panes of alws out also that it would endanger the talling of the atila ney in said building to take down the partition as suggested in the communication referred to Second the building now in use is entirely unfit for school purposes and to is not worth the cost of improving it in any way we at tach plan of a two class room building with four cloak rooms to be constructed of wood in a substantial manner which your committee believe can be built for about 1500 and which can be moved at any time your committee commit teeg therefore recommends that they be authorized to report a suitable site for building such schoolhouse school house sod and to ad vertise for bids for the erection of such a building and report same to this board adopted TO AN EXHIBIT on recommendation of the committee on
