sewer pump purchase the city attorney reported that the resolution failed to give any very definite information as to what he be was required to pass pan upon but being guided to some extent by data derived from other sources and believing it best beat under the circumstances to answer the question as he understood it he proceeded to do so he took it that a proposition to purchase a sewer pump and nd machinery was submitted to the council by the committee on sewers and a bid to te furnish the same was accepted by the council and referred to the mayor tor his action therein that the mayor vetoed the same which he returned to the recorder but through some oversight the resolution of the council submitted to him did not reach the record recorders evs office prior to the next meeting of the council when the mayors mayoris veto was laid before the council hen he understood that the then pro siding officer ruled that said veto message was not properly before the council he failed to find anything in the law which says either directly or by implication that notwithstanding the mayor shall veto an ordinance contract or resolution and that the same to is not returned with the veto it shall become law he believed the only way to make it valid where vetoed ie z for f or the council to proceed to vote and dispose of the objection as provided in the law piled filed REPORT the city would have absolutely nothing to do with the matter hardy 1 I think that matter should 90 0 o to the mayor with the committee associated with power to sot act 1 I think that mr hardy should appreciate our situation there to is no use at all to make such reference as the committee and the mayor cannot and will not agree when they come together there is always friction moran there is one thing that always puzzles me when I 1 come into this council chamber to meeting and it is this any committee excepting epting xo toe committee on water works can do as it pleases apparently but lot let the waterworks water works committee ommittee do a single thing and the mayor will find fault we see that other committees committee can advertise for buildings even when are involved in the transaction all right something is 18 wrong and you should all ali understand it lawson there to is no mistake as to the mayor being opposed to the work of the committee bell I 1 know that there to is no use to consult with the mayor and therefore I 1 am now prepared to stand by the committee in its conclusions the pipe is and badly too rich several days ago the committee on waterworks water works to whom power was given to secure bids for the purchase of this pipe met in this council chamber to open the bids but the recollection of the old fight came vividly before us then in order to be on the safe side we waited for nearly two hours before opening the bids in order that that work could be done in the presence of the mayor but that official declared that he would have nothing to do with the matter and informed the committee that it if they persisted in carrying the work on he would veto the matter se soon awn as it reached his bands as he wanted us ua to understand that we were infringing on his rights this being the case we should bear in mind that it is useless for us to do anything unless we have ten votes to carry it over the mayor mayors mayora a veto hardys hardy Is motion was noted down after which the report was adopted on a vote of nine to two folland and hardy voting against the motion to adopt THE DINWOODEY GRADE henry dinwoodey and fourteen others sent in
