others pre dented anted the following to the honorable the mayor and city council SALT LAKE CITY your petitioners petition ers would respectfully can call your attention to that strip or of country which lies west of the jordan and within the city limits and north of north temple street that part of the city pays large city tax and necess necessarily aill it re edyed none of the advantages of a city govern government mont city police have never been seen een there and and indeed are not needed uwe there no city lights are extended there and nd none of the benefits of city government ment are within the scope of the enjoy of the residents of that part of the city the only thing the city can do for us u is to improve our highways they being within the city the county does not con older them within its jurisdiction and does not aid them with county funds under these theme circumstances it appears to us the subscribers of this petition that it is only juat and fair that improvements hould he be made in that part of the coun to try on the highways hith highways ways and in building bridges across t the e jordan to connect that part pan with the rest of the city there is no good or suitable road or brid bridge north of north te temple m I 1 a street streel at la ninth anth north street et there Is a brid bridge 6 1 without any side rails and the wh whole e bridge is not in a suitable condition for crossing that street should be expended westerly to the city limits and other streets should be opened there are no streets running west of the lane or east and west streets at all alln north orthof of north temple street two or three streets should be opened up through that part of the country in that manner the population of the city would be largely increased as the lands there are eligible for fine building sites all it laaks are roads and bridges to make the premises accessible an and d the result would be that the taxable property would very largely increase in value within a short period large public improvements are now being contemplated tem plated within that region the building ot of these roads would wohld not only in invite I 1 ite others to improve but would enhance the cites revenue by giving increased valuation tion n upon which to levy taxes in view of these circumstances we ask that a committee be appointed or that this matter be referred to some standing committee to se how best the country west w est ot the jordan can be bull built up and that the money paid for city taxes from said eaid property be expended in building bridges and streets beyond the jordan committee Com mUtee on streets street W E hubbard asked that tenth south or roper street be graded and otherwise re p alre rel committee on streets E R G hiller sent in a and irrigation committee frank L hines hinea street street supervisor sent in a similar request moran I 1 move that the claim be not allowed owed rich I 1 second the motion I 1 jo do not know why it to is that the city should pay for the keeping of that gentle mans horse hone bell the city does not feed the horses belonging to these gentlemen but in the revision of city salaries it was thought best to allow them a horse hone and buggy each at the cites expense morau moran about three months ago we passed an AD ordinance reducing the salaries of the heads of those departments from 2400 to 2000 per year now it looks look to me as if those gentlemen were trying to get that but their scheme will not carry if I 1 can help it lawson I 1 am unalterably opposed to granting this request I 1 think the matter should go to the finance committee moran such reference is only folly that committee made the reduction from 2400 to 2000 rich the city is now boarding twenty six horses bones of beads of departments that to is enough N evans moved to amend to refer to a so select elect lect committee of five moran moved an asa substitute that it be referred to the committee on streets dan led ACTIONS disapproved the committee on police reported as follows in the matter of the petition of jacub jacb moritz and others asking for the removal of chief paul and captain donovan for breaking in the acorn of certain salo orn we learn from the testimony given before the committee that the officers referred to did not have warrants for the arrests of the parties in the ease case mentioned in the petition and while we do not know that their actton action in breaking in the doors without necessary warrants for the arrest of parties was in accordance with the law yet we disapprove of such
