Show valedictory THE transfer of the NEWS and oil 01 its effects to a now new company brings my connection with the paper to an end for more than fifteen I 1 have devoted my energies influence and what talents I 1 possess to the editorial department of this thin journal my personal in interests inheres teres health and convenience have h ave been subordinate considerations in view of the duties which its conduct imposed upon me it was a labor of love the DESERET NEWS has haa ever been the champion of truth and liberty and particularly of the rights and interests if i f the people of utah uta the defender of the faith of the litter latter jay day saints and the exponent of the doctrines and discipline of the church it lias has been my aim and desire to re represent P these principles and support these interests with all the vigor and persistence which so gra d a cause should command that I 1 have met with some borne degree of success appears th in the many expressions of approbation and confidence noe which I 1 have received particularly of late and add which are far more valuable to me than riches for twelve years I 1 have had the editorial charge of the daily semiweekly and weekly DESERET NEWS and have been aided by a corps of talented faithful and dil diligent ige nt assistants with whom I 1 have been on the most friendly terms and whose work I 1 now most cordially commend of my associate edito rElder john nichol son bon who also alao retires from thin office I 1 cannot speak but in terms of the highest praise the soul of honor and integrity a man of sound judgment and unswerving faith he be has given his bis whole force of mind and character to the promotion of the public welfare which has haa been identified with the DESERET NEWS I 1 part with these gentlemen with profound regret and with the same feeling I 1 close my communications to the public through these co columns lumus however I 1 do not expect to cease my labors in behalf of the people and the cause which are dearer to me than life I 1 trust treat I 1 aall he be ever g found upon their side ide and expect that my voice and peu will still be used it in their service bervice soliciting for the new company the support of the public and dearring deal ring the happiness happi nees and proe perit of the people whose welfare I 1 havn sought nearly all my life I 1 bid thern editorially an affectionate farewell CHARLES W B |
