| Show THE territorial FAIR the bustle at the pair fair grounds on monday morning began at an early hour at 9 the building and yards were live with exhibitors and the entrance was thronged thron ged with arrivals from the country and outside counties among the principal exhibits were those these of the co op wagon machine company occupying nearly all of the corner north of the exhibition building east of it the studebaker company have stretched a large canvas under which they were then col electing a splendid assortment amort ment of their line of goods the consolidated implement company mccu occupies pies a large square east of the building and george A lowe has a large collection of his farm implements immetta lately tely south of the implement company inside the exhibition hall exhibitors of every department were engaged in arranging their goods one of the conspicuous stands on the lower floor is that of C H Bloom the provo florist his central position has given him an excellent opportunity to show his splendid collection of tropical plante plants which are the principal feature of his exhibit on one side of him is in the beautiful flower stand of mr cramer of this city and on the other side aide mr Christop Christo pherson hereon was arranging a mag ent display from the salt lake nursery north of this group is already in place several stands of garden 11 truck ap showing what utah soil will produce in the line of cabbage squash onions etc one of the main exhibitors in this line is father charles of prove whose face has been familiar at territorial and county fairs for the past thirty years at least father has brought with him the squash that will bring to a lucky guesser a prize 0 of f 10 cash otheree other ex hibi tors on the lower floor were those of james mcdonald ca candies udies the utah cracker factory crackers cracker henry tauter honey william beddes of plain city fruits and vegetables also a ma magnificent exhibit of minerals by A la 16 J gushing of sandy upstairs the men from Dinwoodey lis were still at work on one of the most beautiful exhibits in the fair which will be described hereafter the exhibit of simon bros agent of the deseret woolen mills was in place also an attractive silk display by john lyle the silk weaver of this city most of the art exhibits were stil I 1 in preparation but completed sufficiently to foreshadow a splendid display of new works in the regions of the stock yards the arrivals were mostly from cache and utah counties ENTRIES following is a list of the number of entries thus far in the afternoon and evening SECOND DAY TUESDAY OCTOBER 6 grand double wedding at 2 p m on the grand stand in the main hall two marriage ce remones will be solemn iced and two pairs of hearts united in the holy bonds of wedlock the band will play Lohen grins wedding march and the double bridal pa party arty with bridesmaids and officiates will march to the dining hall and partake of the wedding dinner at 7 p m educational contests and special concert by the band THIRD DAY WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 7 provo day thrilling balloon ascension at 2 p in by the world famed aeronaut and prince of the air processor sor staley with parachute drop as follows after poising his balloon inrid in midair mid air some distance from the earth the daring professor will ascend to it hand over hand then making fast to his bis trapeze will give the word for the balloon almost unmanageable monster of the air to out cut loose and whirling through the air at a perilous height will cut away from the balloon and descending with the parachute make bis awe from the clouds performing the while a trapeze act by hanging by his hia toes at 7 p in educational contest including a spelling match and other interesting te features and promenade concert by the band FOURTH DAY THURSDAY OCTOBER 8 ogden day repetition at 2 p m of great serial exhibition by professor staley at 7 p m begins the exciting a and nd difficult task of awarding a premia ato the prettiest girl at the fair which will occupy the evening FIFTH DAY FRIDAY OCTOBER 9 great baby show at 2 p m at 4 p in en drilling contests to be followed by ru aning matches promenade concert in the evening at 12 the procession formed at the head of main street the ogden drum ma major jur in the lad and marched to the fair there were four bands in all one from ogden two from salt lake and one from the exposition was reached a little b before I 1 holds band marched on the stand aland and prok ceded to oie course some choice music on the stand were henry W lawrence prof talmage governor thomas heber M wells fred simon RAI neon empey and several others atone at one henry W lawrence called the assemblage to order holds band then played a lively air pro fessor talmage was called on to offer prayer governor thomas next followed and said mid that accordi according accor dig g to custom and to the request of the board of directors of the deseret despret agricultural society he be would make some remarks he dwelt ou on the educational value of fairs and said that visitors will always see something they haye have never seen before by means of these exhibits both strangers and residents of utah can see the resources of utah territory by examining these exhibits semi tropical fruits are seen it will be seen also that utah is a highly favored territory and that her resources are both varied and abundant there is everything to be seen here to make the people of utah of their territory tor he I 1 dwelt forcibly on the benefits of the agriculture and mining industries and said that both were as old as civilization iza tion and both were today nourishing flourishing in iia utah H W lawrence then declared the fair open LADIES DEPART department EXT the department department embraces a fine variety of quilts in silk and cotton crochet and netted work embroidery lace work wax and paper flowers banners and table covers in paint and needle work etc in the art department there is a magnificent ent arit collection embracing the various lines of art it is not at this thi 8 writing fully completed it will comprise almost oil paintings 60 50 crayons and between and watercolors water colors there are also some splendid exhibits of photographs by savage and others mr Lm lambourne bourne has a series of views entitled scenic utah they are a prominent feature of the art department there is a beautiful oil painting of arialee the aztec rain god by 0 M ottinger the price mark is mr beebe has some very choice articles in the way of fire screens when the art department is fully arranged and catalogued cataloguer catalo gued it will be one ot of the most instructive departments of the exposition the exhibits from the deseret woolen mills milla are varied and of choice cannels Aan quality they comprise blankets flannels nels hosiery shirts yarns net jackets jacke to etc there is also on view a sample of the wool from which the blankets are made of simon bros agents A noticeable feature of the exhibit is the silk department there are on view badges handkerchiefs mufflers and silk dress material all of home manufacture GARDEN TRUCK one of the beadi leading rig vegetable e exhibits x hibits is 18 made by mr thomas powell of the first ward this city mr display covers pretty nearly the entire list of garden products he shows cabbages weighing nearly t wenty twenty pounds poppers peppers four pounds arrota c eight pounds squashes one hundred and twenty five pounds and so on charles of provo has made an excellent showing Hison his onions lons will turn the scale at two to two and a half fl pounds undo and his poti potatoes toes are a particularly orly excellent product FRUIT i the fruit exhibit from
