| Show THE FACTS IN THE CASE THE organ of the ring liberal faction is endeavoring to make it appear that the present movement on national party lines in the territory la Is a mormon scheme to secure statehood persons not acquainted with the origin of the movement would be led to believe from the statements daily repeated that the cormons mormons started it and induced some unsophisticated and some office seeking gentiles to join them in the attempt to establish a mormon state PP P how do the gentlemen who were the prime movers in these political or like this kind of treatment the mormons cormons Mor mons have become accustomed toabe to the lying and abuse of the ring organ and they care little or nothing about it but the gentiles who came honestly to ohp th conclusion that local strafes ought to cease that local parties were a detriment instead of an advantage to the territory and that utahna future would be bettered and brightened by the union of its citizens with the great national parties are now having a slight taste of the stream of bitterness and mendacity which has been poured out for years for the mormons cormons Mor mons to drink what da d they think of it observant people on the spot know that the present political movement was started not by mormons cormons Mor mons but by gentiles most if not all of whom had been associated with the so called liberal party the amor mor mons mono J had nothing to do with it the leading idea of its originators was that while politics were 0 simply a struggle between lofti parties for local supremacy having no DO connection with or recognition from either of the great national parties her progress would be obstructed and she would be hindered from attaining that greatness and prosperity to which she is entitled by numbers wealth intelligence and resources they perceived the filet fact that the barrier which heretofore had hindered affiliation with those parties had been removed that the mormon people had voluntarily yielded to the demand mandof of the nation in reference to it and that there was nothing now in the way of those harmonious relations with the rest of the country which have been for years declared to be desirable si they saw still further that the so go called liberal party had become simply a party seeking the disfranchisement chi of thousands of good citizens solely on account of their alleged belief we say alleged aeed belief advisedly because many of them do not enter tain such views view as have been ascribed to them those gentile 1 1 gentlemen determined in view of these facts that they would withdraw from a faction which was becoming a block in the way of progress a drag on the wheels of prosperity and a burlesque upon both democracy and republicanism they organized and then invited the people of the territory as citizens to join in the movement they assured the mormon people that having relinquished that social metal custom which was repugnant to the country there was nothing in the way of their uniting with the respective national political organizations the peoples party in this and some other counties thereupon took steps to dissolve mud and the members to join either the republican or democratic organizations izat ions as they saw at this work is now going on and will doubtless continue much to the chagrin of the remnant of the liberal faction these are the facts abuse will not alter them falsehood will not stop the movement nor prevent the better elements of the liberal party from seeking their proper affiliations and it is to be hoped that recent residents of this territory will become acquainted with the true situation of affalee before they take any stand in relation to them and that they will not be misled by the absurd outcries and ridiculous of disappointed and malicious demagogues |
