Show THE THEOLD OLD FOLKS the free entertainment given th the old folks widows widow orphans and betl deaf kl mutes mute in the salt uke lake theatre tuesday march 3 was a decided success in every respect it exceeded anything of the kind previously given before I 1 the appointed hour for opening olento of the doors a large throng of keopf people holding tickets of admission had gathered in front of the building anxious to secure good seats and during the following three quarters of an hour the spacious edifice was filled from pit to dome with old and young presenting a scene of interest and ud grandeur seldom if ever surpassed tu iff any community the ww and dress circle were filled with aged ped people le over severity seventy years old w wb h se hilvety hair mr careworn care worn faces and bowed forms reminded the beholder of severe and protracted struggles with the realities refill ties of life the first circle was filled with widows between the ages of fifty and and ne seventy venty the second secand circle with younger widows and the third circle with orphans and deaf mutes precisely at 2 elder george Clodt doddard lard the veteran veteran member of the old folks committee appeared before the curtain with a basket full of bouquets intended for the live five lady actors of the home dramatic club he delivered a neat little speech in which he be congratulated all present on their being able to meet together for enjoyment notwithstanding the extra which prevailed among the people generally he then asked ask edthe the boys in the third circle if they during the entertainment would refrain from whistling stamping their feet and making unpleasant noises to the annoyance of the old folks to which they gave a hearty response of yee sir and be it said to the credit of these boys that they kept their promise well the old folks bhoj then stepped in front of the curtain and sang auld la 1 am eya they were followed by in abrell 1 H pierce who with marked elocutionary ability rendered sherl sheri danys dans ride hide received an encore and gave a humorous burlesque on the same piece sweet by and by by the old folks choir completed the preliminary part of the gramme pro and the members of the home dramatic club then entered upon their labor of love in playing bronson howards celebrated comedy drama entitled mrs winthrop seldom if ever have the home club showed their talents to better advantage or made a deeper impression upon their audience the entire play which to begin with proved a most happy selection for the occa occasion siou was followed follow cd d with interest throughout in making this entertainment so interesting te and successful much credit is due dhe the management of the theatre who tendered the use of the building free of df charge the home dramatic club who have always responded cheerfully when asked to entertain and administer to the happiness of the led aged t the he orchestra which oti on this occasion n played some of its choicest selections the old folksy folks choir the attaches of the theatre rhe atre the utah power and heating company which furnished gob go and electric lights free of charge the salt lake street car and rapid transit companies compan comp antes fes which gave the aged people free transportation to and from the theatre not to forget the members of the old folks committee consisting of bishop wm win B preston freston goddard C B R savage wm win eddington ding ton wm win naylor win wal L binder john kirkman kirkman andrew jenson and nelson A empey they together with their aids worked with zeal to make everybody happy and comfortable |
