throughout the stake were present the time was occupied iu it dispensing the principles of the grapel the preachers were many and they spoke with freedom and power the testimony of the spirit was enjoyed in a remarkable degree throughout all the services the observance of the word of wisdon the prompt and full payment of tithing the duty of parents to their children the perfect orga organization of the church the free ag agency DllY of man the duty of the friesth priesthood esth in regard to the careless lukewarm and indifferent the authority of the holy priesthood and responsibility of those who bear it and kindred subjects were treated with great clearness and power the spirited singing aleo conduced greatly to the enjoyment of the conference the statistical report for the stake was read and some changes and additions made in the home missionary list T MINSON stake clerk SANPETE the quarterly conference of the sanpete stake was held on the 46 and of february 1891 iu in the ephraim tabernacle there were present of the first presidency enc george Q cannot cannon of the apostles P F M lyman and anton H lund and presidents canute peterson aenry henry beal and john B malben maiben of the stake presidency the local priesthood wes was well represented conference opened at 10 a m by i singing and prayer president peterson said the alie health of the people Is better generally gent rally than it was a short time ago the schools were doing well but few changes had bad taken place in the stake organization and those caused by parties seeking new homes the high council and home m will continue their labors as heretofore ward missionaries have bave commenced their labors with good results the financial situation is improving the saints are willing to dc what is required of them apostle lyman spoke upon the great amount of teaching we receive the saints are not great sinners but are sometimes forgetful careless and indifferent he dwelt upon the necessity of union in all things and of the necessity to know the spirit we are of that we be not misled to be humble in our intercourse with each other and in all the labors of life apostle lund was pleased to learn that the religion classes had commenced he knew they billj do much good the saints are commanded to teach their children the principles of the gospel they should ie be diligent in thi this matter smatter he spoke of the goode effect that a proper feeling of solemnity iu in ministering the ordinances of the gospel has upon the young 2 p m after the opening exercises president cannon said the truths truth of the gospel are always sweet to the saints the lord designs to have the saints perfectly indoctrinated in the principles of the gospel every one will be rewarded for what he does it is according to our faithfulness and diligence that our prayers are answered there is a a great field before the elar to teach the young there is 18 a great deal too much of what is known as hoodlumism among us many have supposed up posed that at death they will go immediately into the presence of god but I 1 will here say none of us will ever get into the presence of god to remain there until we are like him he spoke upon the great expense incurred in sending missionaries to the nations and of the insufficiency of means in many instances for providing for the needy on their arrival among the saints referred to the revelation on the war of the rebellion that the saints watched for its fulfillment for twenty eight years yet it was literally fulfilled and so it will bo be with all the promises promised that have been made to the saints the statistical and sunday school reports were read president cannon spoke approvingly of ward missionaries visiting the saints and of the church schools and the religion classes bishop james A allred spring city ward gave a good report of his ward sunday 10 am opened by singing and prayer president maiben presented the general and stake authorities of the church all were sustained unanimously president cannou cannon said we had bad made the most sacred covenants and one of those covenants we frequently violated that is IQ not to speak evil of eaph each other nor of tho the lords anointed this is a most important matter to us individually we should not be hasty in reach i ng conclusions especially against those who stand in responsible positions we read from isaiah alth chapter 2nd and to ath verties verses the savior I 1 is represented as a most just judge who will know our inmost the prophet joseph urged upon his brethren not to speak evil of the lords anointed aenoi anted nor against the savior nor against the holy ghost nor betray the kingdom of god the spirit of god gives cheerfulness and enables us to look on the bright side of life and not the dark side the spirit of god gives light and life the opposite spirit brings depression pre selon and darkness we should cultivate the gifts of the goabel apostle lyman showed the necessity of the living oracles advised the young men and young women to marry and not defer dking so expecting perhaps to flud perfection which jig is not to be found chapter I 1 corinthians commencing at the 27 verse gave instructions to be observed in administering the sacra mcra ment upon the saints the necessity of forgiving one another and to cease so much taking about each other there are to many idle young men in sanpete San pete the people in general are industrious and economical but some young meu men are too much given to waste there time if they cannot afford to attend school they should read good books and learn the gospel and its precepts thor thoroughly apostle lyman said the time of youth is 18 most valuable opportunities that then present themselves may never return young men should be taught to acquire good habits that shall be a recommendation wherever they may maybe be the young you ag women should be taught taugh tto to manage tile the household and its income be large jor small we should set good examples before our children and not expect them to be better than we are ourselves all our labors are for the purpose of saving ourselves and we are required to labor with all our might for the salvation of the saints also of the jew and the gentile president cannon thought the teachings tit et paul quite applicable to the saints we should be very careful in partaking 1 of the sacrament and endeavor to do so worthily all the ancient apostles and prophets and righteous men who have ha ever lived are looking forward to the time when they will deploy enjoy this privilege of partaking of this feast east with the savior he invoked the blessing of god apon the saints upon all they possess and upon all their
