Show HONORING A DEAD HERO UNDER this heading the pittsburg leader cout contains ains the following account of a tribute of respect paid one of the most meat intrepid and courageous soldiers of the war col william B R creighton who led the ohio seventh which made a splendid record during the campaign the washington infantry returned home on a special train from cleveland ian d yesterday in morning orning the infantry ma made d e quite a hit in the forest city and the b boys received a royal reception on D decoration ec oration day morning a detail of six men under com command rf lieutenant commanday mandAl J I 1 H proceeded ed to woodland cemetery where they placed the infant rys floral tribute on the grave of the late colonel william B R creighton of the seventh ohio volunteers this floral piece was mounted on an easel seven feet high and an inscription entitled bour our comrade 1855 at adorned the center on top of the emblem was a white star with the figure 1121 12 upon it designating the second division twelfth corps under this floral tribute was as inscribed washington infantry 1890 1 the detail was ebe escorted arted to the cemetery by captain schmidt a veteran of cre creightonn Creigh i gatons tons regiment and were met by the survivors of the seventh ohio upon reaching the grave yard after placing the floral emblem upon colonel creigh tons grave lieutenant made an address in which he briefly stated colonel creightonn Creigh tons connection with the wash agton infantry previous to the war captain schmidt also spoke of colonel creightonn Creigh tons career on the field with the seventh ohio volunteers un which were better known as roosters P the Vete veterans then escorted the detail to the regiments monument ent which they were engaged in decorating and presented the boys with their regimental badge after leaving the cemetery the detail was treated to an inviting lunch on the return march from the garfield monument dedication the washington infantry accompanied by the band on invitation ion of mrs creighton wife of the deceased colonel visited the residence of thomas J T quirk brother of mrs creighton Creigh toa on bolivar avenue arms were stacked clothes brushed and dust washed off the boys faces after which the whole party partook of an excellent spread which was quite royally attended to by the boys as they were tired and h hungry gingry i ingry having walked twelve miles outside of the infantry ver very y few organizations marched back from the cemetery after supper the band serenaded the worthy hostess find and as the company came to attention major george bonn president of the regimental association presented the company with a picture of colonel creighton captain shannon returned the thanks of the company in a few well chosen words saturday the boys spent in seeing the city and anany took a trip on the lake the major E A Mon looth band made quite a hit by their splendid appearance and fine music mr thomas quirk and mrs eleanor creighton Creigh toD widow of the dead hero are cousins to president george Q and president angus M cannon cannola |
