teach the musical department of the twenty first ward which was referred to the committee on employment of teachers mr armstrong submitted a query in regard to school supplies he wanted to know just what the duties of the committee on school supplies were he thought there might be a conflict between that committee and the committee ou on general supplies it was the general opinion that this quest it before the board and then enquired whether it had been sealed according to tg the order of the board mr collath ol bath said it was and mr nelson ihen then urged the adoption of the report and it was adopted the committee on text books reported recommending that it be ad disable to have at the headquarters orthis of this boa board rd a library of books of reference and as special lines of study apart from and higher than mere text books for the convenience of the members of the board of the of schools and the he advancement of the tea teachers cherti engaged in the school work of the city they recommended that such arks orbs be purchased from time to time by the committee on text books but whenever an order m y amount to more than the specific authority of the board be first hal hai in pursuance of the idea herein embodied dealers in books and school supplies four in number and as we understand all who are general dealers in this line in this city have been invited by this committee to file with the clerk of this board bids as to the rates on which they will supply the hooks books maps etc excluding text books merely and also excluding blanks and blank books that may be ordered the report was adopted the purchase of the nineteenth ward meeting house for L school purposes was ordered being the purchase price it was resolved that hereafter the various schools be numbered con commencing with the first ward but dropping the word ward mr newman wanted some light thrown upon the salary of the high school teachers he wanted to know whether they were to secure salaries from the date of their appointment ment or from commencing work contracts with the various teachers assigned were ordered to be made mr colbath wanted to know whether all the schoolhouses would be b e r ready eady to open on monday morning september mr newman N esmau said he be was afraid that some would not be but he be thought a majority would some of the janitors had not reported as yet mr nelson moved that alliani tors who had not reported be fired in the discretion disere tion of the committee on general supplies adopted the superintendent was authorized to publish an official announcement of the opening of the be schools on monday next the board then adjourned |
