Show IN iguest OF birds mr air W 0 knudson had the pleasure last week of accompanying prof S H goodwin the well vell orin th on a trip to the marshes in the vicinity of the mouth of bear river mr air goodwin was so enthusiastic over what he found out there among the tribes of the feathery kingdom that he know it was raining mr knudson vouches for the truth of this statement although it is a strong one and we all know how it poured that day well the gentlemen were very successful in their quest thirty six d different 1 e e n t kinds of birds were seen and samples of many secured and many nests and eggs found in speaking of nests mr aar knudson says that at one point where they stood and looked around nests could be seen these were photographed by prof goodwin and will likely figure in write ups by the gentleman in the interests of bird study some of the birds found in that section are the bl blue e herring night herring and snowy herring purple sand martin violet swallow and the evans swallow or common swallow then there are all kinds of snipes ducks and other water birds three kinds of gulls the franklin the bonaparte and the common gull the franklin has pot not been found in utah before one thing that especially interested the professor was the immense rookeries rook eries he found thousands of birds nesting in the same the blue herring rookery was the largest he had ever seen in this part ot of the united states prof goodwin is now making a tour of southern utah and part of nei nevada ada but will return here again for more extensive researches later |
