| Show WEBER STAKE fiNCE alt OGDEN july 21 1 1 ma the two days quarterly conference which closer last Vv evening ening was am among ong tile most interesting of similar gatherings ings which ha have ever la in this alty the change of holding such meetings from saturday and sunday to sunday and aad monday has thus far been successful saturdays Saturday pis always a busy day and the people from the settlements who invariably variably ia throng ogden on the last day of the week consume most of the time while here in transacting business and visiting friends so that while we are sure of a large congregation at the tabernacle on the sabbath day tint but few comparatively at tended attended meetings on saturday there was excellent attendance during this conference AMONG THE VISITORS were apostles F D richards and john W taylor dr edward isaacson of salt lake and president geo 0 pitkin of the cache valley stake tile the opening remarks of president shurtliff were seasonable and appropriate 1 ahe I he reports of the bishops showed the people throughout the stake to be alive and generally up with the spirit of the times in trio discharge of their duties although there were of course 6 some am e exceptions the people eop e in this stake slake are living in peace pae there hr are arc but very few difficulties faculties reported and still fewer of a serious nature ane scarcity of water lor for irrigating purposes caused much anxiety and some unfriendly feeling but these have subsided aud and all now appear to do their best to assist each otner 4 there are a number of poor reported in nearly all the wards but bat these are all provided for so that none of them at it her need to nor noi do suffer for tse tae necessaries of life the dealta of the people in ge general noral is good and not much sickness nor many deaths were reported the relief were said to be unceasing in their labors to assist the needy to administer to the afflicted and comfort in distress the young mens menlo and young ladies improvement associations are doing an excellent work among the youth they are indrea increasing ing their enrollment and andare are advancing in the acquire acquirement of knowledge which will fit anem for positions of usefulness of honor and trust in the community in a time to come they are sustained and encouraged cou raged by leading citizens of all the wards SPECIAL MENTION was made in the reports of the saby bath schools in the weber state stake atje general report of the stake superintendent showed the enrollment of toe the children of the latter day saints in the county between and are enrolled and special visits are being made by the teachers to procure not only the enrollment but the attendance of a all 11 who are ele eligible gible the remarks of the apostles were replete with sound advice warning the sa saints a ts against indulgence in the evils of the times they exhorted the saints to observe the sabbath day and not delec desecrate rate it by excursions and pleasure seeking instructive remarks were also made by presidents C F and geo 0 Fi an and d bishop E D wade and others 0 |
