Leavitt Center for Politics and Public Service for any student, any major, any time when they have met five qualifications. Public Relations Specialist for the Leavitt Center, Bailey Bowthrope, a masters candidate of public administration major from Ilolladay, said there are five requirements for an internship. Theres only five things we need from students to apply; a cover letter, resume, a writing sample, letters of recommendation and transcripts, she said. Students also need to have a 3.0 GPA or higher to qualify. If a student is wanting to do a spring semester internship, these documents need to be turned into the Leavitt Center by Oct. 1. Bowthorpe said political internships are not all related to government responsibilities. We offer local internships here in Cedar City, she said. People can do internships with government officials. They can work in city government with a couple of judges, students in nonprofit organizations, so its not just necessarily limited to just governmental things. Clay Crozier, a senior political science major from Roosevelt, had the opportunity to do an internship with the state legislature last semester. He said some of his responsibilities were equally administrative and governmental. Here you do everything. You do their scheduling. You do research for them. You do their bills for them. You get in contact with other legislators and see how they are going to vote on things, he said. Bowthorpe said one reason students hesitate to go after political internships is that they dont feel qualified. le r T1 Mormon apostle dies i i f Tuesday afternoon 3 Tuesday afternoon, Richard G.
