The Lexington Media Group, a team of web developers and designers, came seeking permission to use Cedar Citys Festival City USA trademark. Parker Grimes, a Cedar City resident and member of the Lexington Media Group, said he has been frustrated with figuring out when and where activities in Cedar City are taking place. The current state of things is that were forced to bounce from website to website or drive down Main Street as the police force is setting up cones, Grimes said. We, the Lexington Media Group, want to solve this problem. Grimes said they arent seeking for the city to hire them or to be paid for any of the services they want to provide, but having a private business operate a service like this is better than having the city or another local government agency operate it. LMG has registered the domain name festivalcityusa.com and has invested a significant amount of time developing the website, with ongoing costs such as servers and marketing. Grimes said. We plan to fund this site by having local business sponsors and with advertising paid possibly a small fee for smaller organizations to post, Grimes said. Every organization weve talked to has been extremely excited about our idea. The website is functioning well and aside from talking to local organizations, LMG hasnt done anything to market or advertise, Grimes said. site for Its a purpose-bui- lt events in Cedar City. Its got a calendar that is feature rich, (and) people can subscribe to a newsletter, which we will email them every week about upcoming events, Grimes said. We feel like this will be a great service. Nina Barnes, council member, said there has been discussion about how the city is short in this area, and how it will be great for tourists as well. Its perfect timing, she said. ) former Clinton Dowse, president of SUUs Disc Golf Club, presented the idea of using an empty plot of land as a Disc J Golf course. Disc Golf is like golf, replacing golf balls with Frisbees and the holes with baskets. Dowse said it would benefit this ' community for a few different reasons. There isn't a course in southern Utah for over 100 i miles, while courses are found throughout the nation, especially in the East. There is one in Brian Head, but its seasonal and isnt readily for disc golfers, available Dowse said. Its a very popular sport . . and everyone can play. Dowse said he has had many positive comments, and it would be well received in Cedar City. Barnes raised several questions 2 of liability, bathrooms, parking' and what needs to be provided. (These items) need to be part of that conversation, Barnes said. Both ideas have been set to be discussed at a later time after more information can be provided. , -- . |
