The staff will also take care of minor injuries, give immunizations, or just lend an ear. Located in Manzanita Court C-- l, the center provides these and many other health related services for students at a fairly small fee. The facility is open every Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students are welcome anytime and all records, tests, and procedures are kept strictly confidential. Our goal is to get the students in class, said Registered Nurse Kay Messerly, the director of Health Services. To achieve this goal, the center offers quality medical care on a students budget. We are not trying to make a profit, said Messerly, explaining how price is kept so low. fee of Because it is a state subsidized facility, only a one-tim- e $10 is charged to cover the cost of supplies and the storage of medical records. Special tests are performed at a minimal cost, although a few are free. Although the staff members employed at the clinic are paid slightly less than other professionals in similar positions, there are compensations. Messerly enjoys working with the student body. This is a good population to work with, said Messerly, very wonderful and positive. The staff at the clinic also has nights and weekends off a rare luxury in the medical business. Another plus is the lack of serious illness and injury. We never lose anyone, noted Messerly. In addition to supplying students with health care, the center also provides information on health education, helps with insurance claim forms. The early founders of our institution sacrificed with pride for the future students of SUU. Today, just like the founders, we have a responsibility to continue SUUs tradition of excellence. With the change to university status in January of this year, you and I are now pioneering the future direction of SUU. With 4,000 students on campus, each person can play a vital role in the success of the university. The quality education here has a personal touch that larger universities cant match. The faculty and administrators have a love for higher education and for teaching, and a concern for their students. This is evident when you consider that many professors are sacrificing higher salaries in order to be a part of the SUU community. Regardless of what the university has to offer, the true quality of your higher education can only be determined by you. Dont spend your time as I did as a freshman. Please, accept my personal invitation to get involved.
