Show r Arts & Leisure V'U''X 'L , '- - SOUTHERN UTAH STATE COLLEGE, CEDAR CITY THE THUNDERBIRD THURSDAY, JANUARY 11, 1990 Festivention 90 kicks off Jan, Theatregoers have an unprecedented opportunity Jan. to sample the Intermountain Wests finest theatrical offerings during Festivention 90, Rocky Mountain Theatre Association meetings hosted by the Utah Shakespearean Festival and the SUSC theatre arts department. Eight shows are on the Festivention agenda, two each day, one at 2 p.m. in the SUSC Auditorium and another at 8 p.m. in the Randall L. Jones Theatre. Showcase productions have been selected by RMTA adjudicators and are in competition for a bevy of theatre awards to be announced at the conclusion of the convention. There are eight different productions offering everything from childrens theatre to very chilling drama. Of special interest, I think, will be the musical Tintypes and Alice m Wonderland because they are said definitely geared toward full family entertainment, R. Scott Phillips. Festivention Between 800 and 1,000 delegates from Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and Nevada are expected at Festivention. Highlights include a keynote address by actress Carol Channing the weeks Convocation, which has been rescheduled in the Centrum Showcase productions, a Renaissance Feaste and awards banquet, industrial displays and a multitude of workshops and competitions conducted by theatre professionals. Showcase tickets are available at the Auditorium Box Office, weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until curtain on days of performances. Individual tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for senior citizens and students. Passes are available for all four afternoon or evening shows for $15 and $12. All seating is general admission. The evening performance schedule is as follows: Jan. 17 BYUs Tintypes is a new musical conceived by Mary Kyte with Mel Marvin and Gary Pearle and directed by BYU theatre professor Marion Bentley. This highly acclaimed performance takes place in America, featuring Teddy Roosevelt, Ziegfeld Folly girl Anna Held and social anarchist Emma Goldman. 17-2- 0 Co-cha- ir Chelle Hansen Lcyia, a senior music education major from Louisville, Ky., will perform m the Student Recital Jan. 12. Jan. 19 Casper Colleges Waiting for Godot is the tragic comedy about two tramps who wait near a tree for the promised arrival of the elusive Godot. Set in the high country of Vietnam in 1971, the play involves a group of infantrymen and their girlfriends, wives and mothers back home who appear in their thoughts or fantasies.
