Mesquite is adding new industry and new retail space. Richfield is expanding its economics. Other neighboring counties posting substantial percentage increases in wage and salary jobs are Kane, Piute, and Sanpete counties at 5 , and 6 respectively Southern Utah State recently sponsored a rural economic development conference and exposition to coalesce and share information among these and other rural communities of southern Utah. Southern Utah State is a major resource for small business development through its Center for Free Enterprise and Economic Development. The National Center for Higher Education Management Systems, Boulder, Colorado, recently provided a list of all state controlled, comprehensive institutions with enrollments between 2,000 and 4,000. The list identifies 70 institutions with the 'university title, 28 with the "college" title, and one "institute. Southern Utah State, together with Utah State University and Snow College, are regional institutions which serve a broad geographical area of the State. The University of of its enrollment from Salt Lake County, Utah draws 63 of its students from Weber and Weber State draws 76 of its Davis counties. Dixie College attracts 61 enrollment from Washington County. College of Eastern Utah draws 60 from Carbon and San Juan counties, where it maintains campuses. Utah Valley Community of its students from Utah County, College receives 74 and Salt Lake Community College attracts 90 of its students from Salt Lake County. Only SUSC, Utah State University, and Snow College draw the majority of its students from outside their home counties. Southern Utah State is the baccalaureate-leve- l college of choice for students in the counties of Millard, Sevier, Beaver, Piute, Wayne, Iron, Garfield, San Juan, Washington and Kane, an area comprising 82,211 square miles, roughly the equivalent in size of the combined states of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Maryland and New Jersey. 20' 10 0- 7 - university college Seventy percent of the Institutions of SUSCs type with enrollments between 2,000 and 4,000 have the title of university.
