In the second half, Rick Roberts showed his ability to hit the three, bagging four in a short 5 with five seconds to span. But it went to the wire. Trailing shoot Richard line Barton the two for SUSC. He to to went play, missed both shots, but the Cats knocked the ball out of bounds with three ticks left on the clock. But the Birds were called for a five seconds violation on the inbounds pass, and the game ended. FINAL: WEBER STATE 66, SUSC 65 The Birds only dropped to 73 in the rankings but dropped some pride to what may be the worst team in the state. After Christmas the Birds were home to face Richmond, but average shooting wasnt good enough. The Spiders shot 72.7 percent in the second half and Ken Atkinson had 31 points. Barton led SUSC with 20 points. FINAL: RICHMOND 95, SUSC 83 Then Saturday night, carrying a record, SUSC traveled to Idaho State. The Birds led by as many as 13 in the first half but were down at intermission. The second half was close all the way, featuring 12 ties and many more lead changes. But in the end it was Barton atoning for the Weber game, hitting the winning shot with six seconds left. He had 27 points. Naulls had his best game of the year with 18 points and 14 rebounds. One when they score 90 or interesting sidebar is that the Birds are more points. FINAL: SUSC 90, IDAHO STATE 88 The Thunderbirds face St. Marys Thursday night, and Cal State Northridge Friday night in a rare pair of games. Tipoff for both games is 7:30 p.m. NOTES: Kelvin Lee sprained an ankle against Wright State and did not play against Weber State. Rick Roberts has a hyperextended elbow and did not play against Idaho State. It is not known if he will be ready for St. Marys.
