Show Convo to feature astronaut, author SUSCs winter quarter Convocation audience invited to attend lectures beginning Jan. 5, presented by a time management specialist, a former astronaut, AIDS researchers, an actor, a director and an opera company. Also on the agenda, said Convocation Coordinator Lana Johnson, are Convocations by a leading Utah businessman, ASSUSC election candidates and programs by two authors, one held hostage by the Iranians and the other a correspondent during the Vietnam War. Programs will be held in the SUSC Centrum, 1 starting at 1 a.m. each Thursday morning. The change of location, Johnson said, is being made because of renovations to the college auditorium. Convocation programs are free to the public and credit is available for attendance at the lecture series. Hyrum Smith, founder of the Franklin Institute and the Franklin Planner, is the Jan. 5 speaker. The highly sought-afte- r speaker is the author of and cassette tapes and is video several books and Actor Robert Ingram Jr. will discuss Martin Luther King and his Writings at the Jan. 19 Convocation. Dupuy is the founder and artistic director of The Famous People Players, a black-ligpuppet theater troupe that has dazzled audiences throughout the world. The program will introdi e the Convocation audience to Puccinis Madame Butterfly, an operatic masterpiece of love and betrayal, and serves as a prelude to the former Cedar City Music performance that evening. The Liberating Power of Personal Mission Statements is the topic for Feb. 23 Convocation speaker Stephen R. Covey. Dr. Covey is chairman of Stephen R. Covey Sc Associates and has worked for more than 25 years in the business of personal relations, leadership and organizational development. An election debate featuring candidates for 1989-9- 0 Associated Students of SUSC offices is planned March 2. Scheduled the first time as a Convocation program, the debate is planned to bring students and would-b- e student leaders with the concerns and issues facing SUSCs growing student population. Author Betty Mahmoody is the final winter quarter speaker. Not Without My Daughter is the title of her March 9 Convocation, a program drawn from her harrowing experiences as an Iranian hostage. Mahmoodys experience is one of compelling adventure and extraordinary courage and is one in which she discovered profound differences between Iranian and American women.
