Show PACE 2 THE THUNDERBIRD MONDAY MAY 18, 1987 Kramer to host awards night BY LISA JANE LAIRD v: CD o u Salt Lake City radio personality Danny Kramer will host the Thunderbird Awards Night Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Auditorium. Billed by ASSUSC as the most prestigious night of the year, the awards night honors student and faculty accomplishments for the past school year. The evening's host, Kramer, is currently a personality for KALL radio in Salt Lake City. Previously, Kramer worked at KSL radio from 1972 until 1985. Kramer also appears in several television commercials in Salt Lake City. "Kramer has a very good sense of humor and people who are familiar with him, like him," said Kathy Shammo, awards night Shammo said that Kramer's personality will appeal to the audience. According to Lareta Banks, publicity director for the awards night, a few small changes were made to the evening's agenda this year. For instance, the nominees for entertainer of the year will present the entertainment selections during the evening, rather than other talent. Banks said that this would give the awards audience an opportunity to see the nominees' talents before their award is presented. Based on a previous popularity vote by the student body earlier this month, nominees for teacher of the year are: Mike Donovan, Kim Jones, Les Jones, Kent Meyers, and James Vlasich. Also based on a popularity poll, nominess for personality of the year include: Alan Bailey, Stacy Buchanan, Juan Henderson, K.C. lones, and Monica Moe. Nominees for scholar of the year, which is based on academic achievement and grade point, include: Sheri Brown, Michael Durfey, Marilyn Crafe, Lance Houser, and Margie Taylor. The original nominees then get to vote for their peers and the final five in both categories become the nominees for contributer of the year. The nominees must then face a panel of judges who make the final decision. Female contributer of the year nominees are: Stacy Buchanan, Suzanne Corry, Kathy Shammo, Kim Udy, and Natalie F. Waters. The final male contributer of the year nominees include: Alan Bailey, Keith Betsuie, Bill Honeck, Jeff Swindlehurst, and Mark Waters. Originally, entertainer of the year nominees are suggested by department heads and finalists are chosen in the same manner as the contributer of the year. The final nominees for this award include: Lisa Berger, Doug Christensen, Liz Leisek, Steve Shirts, and Kenn Wheeler. Based partly on academic achievement and partly on leadership and honors, the R. Kenneth Benson and Sterling Silver awards will recognize the outstanding man and woman for their dedicated service to SUSC. Nominees for the Benson award include: Alan Bailey, Marty Harris, Kelly Holman, Robert Johnson, and Kon Kontogiannis. Nominees for Sterling Silver are: Dorcas Adams, Stacy Buchanan, Suzanne Corry, Keilani Lindsay, and Eulail Pickering. Intertribal Club, Sigma Nu, and VICA are all up for honors for organization of the year. Former ASSUSC President Bailey will pay tribute to an outstanding staff person for his or her contributions to the college. Nominees include: Brad Bennett, Alan Hamlin, Bonnie Mitchell, Dale Orton, and Peg Thorley. The one award chosen in advance, alumnus of the year, will be presented to RaNae Naegle Morris, a 1947 graduate from what was then known as the Branch Agricultural College. Morris started a "little craft business" in 1962.
