Show The Thunderbird More one-ac- Monday December 9, 1985 Page 13 plays this week t BY CHAD MCBRIDE SUSC theater students in the directing II class will.be producing their second block of ont-h-et plays this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at noon. The plays will be presented in Auditorium 108, and admisson is free to the public. Students in directing II are required to direct a one-ac- t play, and their grade for the quarter depends on how well they do, says R. Scott Phillips, SUSC Theater Promotions Coordinator. The students assignment is to choose a one-ac- t play, cast and direct it, and turn in a directors book. This includes the script, blocking, and the directors notes. The director may have only 12 hours of rehearsal for the play. Gary Owen, one of the seven students presenting a play, said that the purpose of the assignment is to give directing students a chance to direct, and to look at the other side. Owen is directing Scooter Thomas Makes it to the Top of the World. Owen said that when casting the plays, many of the directors wanted the same people. Cheryl Ann Cluff, director of The Typists, said, I didnt get who I (first) wanted, but I am happy with who Ive got. Lisa Berger said she never knew what an emotional thing casting could be. Berger knew who she wanted, and made sure she got them. She also said she wasnt very nice about' it. Berger is directing Margaret s Bed. Jan Shelton, who is directing 'Til the Pat Lady Sings , said I m finding that it s really hard to let people know whats going on inside my mind. Owen said he realized how very little can be done after blocking if the actors are not memorized. Cluff never realized the load the director has to carry and the responsibilty the director has. On Wednesday, two plays will be presented: Til the Fat Lady Sings and The Golden Fleece, directed by Todd B. Dayley. will be presented on Three one-act- s Thursday: Margaret s Bed, The Typists, and Impromptu, directed by Kelly Van Hooser.
