Thompsons Distinguished Faculty Honor Lecture has been postponed until spring 1986. A questionnaire will be distributed at the Convocation. It is only a part of a total evaluation to be conducted school year during the 1985-8by Convocations Coordinator Lana Johnson. She intends to determine if the lecture series fulfills its intended objectives. Those objectives are to expand perspective and enhance the collegiate experience for students, and to enrich the community life of college patrons. Johnson says there are few studies which evaluate the effectiveness of lecture series, and those studies use external events to measure series impact. Although we can say we have had some success by measuring external factors, I would like to see what students are thinking and use the evaluation to provide direction for future programming, said Johnson. 6 Judging the Convocation program from external factors, Johnson says that the number of students enrolled in the course for elective credit has increased each quarter since the beginning of the lecture series m 1983 Johnson also cites the media attention that several individual presenters have received while at SUSC. All programs receive local media attention and most receive state media attention as well, she said On occasion, guest lecturers may even get national attention, such as last winter quarter when James Watt addressed the Convocation audience Johnson stresses that each survey will be read and recorded After the tabulating is done, she will survey SUSC faculty and staff and the Cedar City community to judge the programs impact on those individuals. Students enrolled in the Convocations series are required to attend the Thursday meeting and to turn m the signed survey. The public is welcome to attend the meeting and participate in the Convocation evaluation. ASSUSC STUDENT SERVICE CENTER 3 pm. Open Monday thru Friday, 12 Located in the Student Center.
