This year the men are strong in the rough stock events such as bull riding and saddle bronc riding, Wright said. However, these events depend both on the animals performance and the riders skill, but the luck of the draw has not been with them. In the bull riding, saddle bronc riding and bareback riding events contestants draw to determine which animals they will ride. Yet Wright feels the team still has a good shot at the national competition. If the team places second in the Rocky Mountain Region they will qualify and head to Bozeman, Mont, in June. The rodeo program was just about on its last leg when I got here, he noted. Since then I think weve been able to do some things with it. Were getting to the point where the college can start to be proud of us thats our goal. Not only is the team good in the rodeo arena, but said Wright, their performance in the classroom is also notable. Ive been really impressed with my rodeo kids this year. Winter quarter they had a collective grade point average of over three points. This year we have a really good group, they are academically sound, they are on the honors roll. ..they work very hard in school. Im very poud of them for that.
