Show HIGH SCHOOL NOTES friday march was a lay day of anxious anticipation in high school on oil the morning of that day our deba debaters tors alfred freeman kenneth wright and carlysle stoney accompanied by prof neff and ten other students went to ogden to debate tho the ogden high school the three ogden de debaters batora met our debaters at the depot and took them to the he high school bullying bull jing at noon they were taken to reeds needs cato cafe for inner dinner at I 1 oel bek the fateful hour our boys too took the stand against their opponents the ogden students cast sympathetic glances at tho the boys from brigham the question for debate was resolved that ahat the government should own and ope operate rate the railto railroads ad s we choso chose the negative carlysle stoney champion on our side was very calm and self possessed and his ready wit ind and fluent 1 language in ge pleased the audience and captivated the judges ren ken wright followed for tile tha negative taking up the question ot of the railroads in foreign I 1 countries and showed that government ownership had proven unsatisfactory ani and that hat their railroads are interior inferior to ours ile ho put forth his arguments in a lively spirited manner alfred freeman was the third speaker for foil negative his arguments were so clean and the ahe delivery so good that when he sat down there was no doubt left in the minds of tile the audience as to which side had won it was a most decided victory tor for us all three judges gave our boys the decision the points standing to in favor of our boys and each brigham boy beat his opponent when the train bearing the erig drig haul ham students pulled into this city tile the rest of the school were there to meet them our joy knew no n 0 bounds and we bave gave vent to our feelings by sin singing ling and giving school yells in the evening a party was held in tile the opera house the members of the commercial club were there and each one ona made a speech before we started to dance tile the high school orchestra furnished music the refreshments fresh ments consisted of oranges candy inputs bananas and lemonade every one had L a glorious time |
