anniversary of the independence of the united states was waa celebrated with great in fact the demori demonstrations som ra in favor of the tha eventful day c commenced on saturday night for some bome of the ultra loyal folks began at sundown to fire are off of their crackers and continued ath near daybreak next morning on sunday special services were held in some of the sectarian churches in this place they were of a jubilant j character some ot the chief features being concerts etc but the celebration PROPER was postponed until today to day when the first streak of light shot across the horizon from the east to the west the ceremonies were inaugurated by the booming of the big guns this li aroused roused those of our citizens whose slumbers had not been interrupted by the almost incessant discharge of fireworks during the night the national colors were immediately ely thereafter bunup run up to the head bead of the th libe liberty r pole and were soon floatie I 1 in the breeze the star spangled banner was executed by the brass band and was followed by other popular selections the music was seconded by the sounds of artillery and numerous other guns firecrackers fire crackers and other demonstrations st which continued for a long aimel time just as though noue none of we the brave sons son 0 of f noble sir sires were driven into exile or languishing IN PRISON for presuming to exercise that liberty for which their fathers fought for which they poured out their bod blood like water and for bior which they closed th their J eyes in ia death upon the battle field fields and whose memories are sanctified and whose noble brave and gallant deeds are this day commemorated and laud lauded edby by millions pardon this digression gres sion it is natural at 9 0 clock the citizens from the town and country began to flock in they assembled on union square all were decked in their holiday attire among the institutions was a lair fair representation resen tation of the sabbath schools with banners on which were inscribed numerous appropriate mottoes at 10 the GRAND procession was formed by bythe the marshal of the day G J wright esq assisted by thos 11 II thirteen original states of the union base bail e club sixteenth ward salt lake brass hand ladies relief belief societies sabbath schools sixth ward salt lake band then followed in carriages carria ees the orator of the day reader of the declaration of independence chaplain officials visitors next came the hooper brass band citizens manufacturers trades merchants etc following are the young the government and laws of this nation he prayed that the spirit of the fathers of this cou country n might rest upon the reader and the chief speaker speake of th elday the iday and that the almighty would send us more men like hancock adams jefferson washington and other founders founder of the liberty of this great nation he invoked the blessings of god upon the president cabinet judi judiciary diary and other authorities of the united states this was followed by a glee by the choir under the direct direction ip of prof L D edwards E H anderson in an earnest and impressive manner read i the rhe delivery of the oration just 30 minutes A GRAND hallelujah CHORUS of sixty voices led by prof edwards assisted by the orchestra commanded the admiration of the assembly the mornings proceedings
