Show ARREST AT TOOELE JOHN W TATE HELD HEED TO ANSWER ON A CHARGE OF tN LAWFUL cohabitation yer yesterday berday morning deputy marshal vandercook went out to the lake where he remained several hours and then continued his journey to tooele thoele city about half past eight last evening in company with deputy scott I 1 he called on mr john W tate sen of tooele thoele and served a warrant of arrest on that gentleman the accused with a number of witnesses was brought in this morning and diken before bom commissioner mckay wliam the complaint to which mr tate entered a plea of not guilty alleges that the defendant dant lived with his wives ann tate anel and emily green tate contrary to the provisions of the edmunds law two witnesses from the nineteenth ward mrs greenwall and daughter were subpoenaed but at the examination it was developed that they were not even acquainted with the def defendant end mrs ann tate was called as a witness and testified I 1 live in tooele thoele the defendant is ray my husband I 1 know emily green she used to live in too ele about a block and a half from sherel live she bad been living jiving there about five years when I 1 first met her she lived in salt balt lake city about a year and a half ago she went away and I 1 have not heard from her since she had no chil dren she stayed at my house when she farst fl came to tooele thoele my husband lived in the same house we ill lived together I 1 do not know that he lived with emily she was recognized as ba plural blural wife after she moved from ID ma house ouse the defendant lived with hei part pare of the time up to when she went away cross examined by mr young emily green left tooele thoele about february 1885 my bus husband band lived with hei before then and with me ever si since nee joseph tate testified stifled te the defendant is my father I 1 do not live him I 1 have seen emily green she I 1 ii perhaps 25 21 or 30 years of age shi never lived in wy rpy house she has lived at my fathers that was about three years ago she then went to another house belonging to my father my i jather father lived with mv av mother so f far a r as 1 know I 1 took no particular n notice ot i c e of 01 Ms his actions I 1 laut haird of emily green about 18 months ago I 1 do not know where she went to or why she went away she was reputed to be my fathers wife mrs fanny tate was called I 1 am the defendants daughter in law my husbands name is charles I 1 have seen emily green but have no acquaintance with her I 1 do not know what her relation to the defendant is I 1 do not know where the defendant lived I 1 have seen him at his house I 1 do not know of emily green having any children the commissioner held mr tate in 1000 bonds to await the action of the grand jury mrs ann tate mrs fanny y tate and joseph tate were each held in lail ail to appear before the grand jury on august ath |
