Show OGDEN odden ELECTION OGDEN CITY utah I 1 feb loth 1 1879 editors bors 3 deseret neus asper aspen legal notice the election for city off meers leers of this municipality was held today to day and with happy results for the friends of law and order sunday all day the storm clouds hung thick heavy and ominously over the city and at night they burst and continued to discharge themselves until daylight this thia morning our streets were filled with pools of water mud ac but at an early hour teams and many vehicles were called into requisition and before the hour appointed registered electors began to flock to tho polling place anxious to deposit their votes for the peoples peopled ticket I 1 at eight the ballot box was ready when deposits commenced in good earnest A large stream of voters continued to arrive cast in their ballot and depart again until noon when the business lulled for about an hour it then became lively once more and continued so till a little past five at this time it became pretty evident that nearly all who intended to do eo so had bad cast in their votes that the battle was fought and that victory perched once more on the peoples banner although there was a great deal deai of enthusiasm there was but little excitement the highest vote vatia cast east for mayor was I 1 fon for for fon hon HOD L J herrick hernek the highest vote of 01 aili alls ail all was ca cast forr torr P esq for coun councilor calor many more votes would have been polled on this occasion i but quite a number of electors were absent and many others were prevented by sickness A little before noon considerable hilarity was created by a person nam named ed freeman who is said b by Y some persons here to have been for some time under the of fair luna and that he is mot not re responsible spon eible for his actions chisper this person came rushing into the city hall hal and presented hati what whal hate he be called the straight freeman TI ticket JJ and vehemently urged loyal people toyom it straight after it bad had been examined it was pronounced too thin a solid respectable spec table ticket was preferred the majority and the minority were fully and fairly represented and peace order anu and good humor prevailed no accident oce occurred ur ed and aud an d I 1 do not remember to b have av seen one drunken person throughout the day altogether it was one of the most peaceable municipal election I 1 have witnessed in ogden city tonight we have an additional heavy rainfall which will materially increase our mush and duck puddles Je SEMPER |
