commemorative entertainment inthe inaho in the tabernacle the committee certai certainly nik provided a fine treat for the visitors from all ail all sli parts who attended the entertainment being of a high grden erder in class and merit in short this was its grea greatest test teat fault aa as the building la Is too vast and stupendous to admit of nine fine soft passages being properly 11 heard e a rd and duly appreciated the bunday sunday bieh tich formed a very beautiful feature there b be log lux lug between and children child Ten ren present but the little folks as might be e x hect peeled were were somewhat restless and the quiet being more or leas less disturbed in consequence the very beautiful and difficult performances of prof felho on tho the violin and prof daynes on the piano plano iano lano as also the h a charming of miss tiu aud and d miss mckay were comparatively lost to a large portion of the audience however these performers aa as did also others that appeared receive strong appreciative marks of approval and prof weihe was waa ly encored an and d gave a third evidence of his wonderful genius in handling the hing king pf af stringed jr the hrit first of zion 10 musical society which formed one of the attractions of the dayi day was ivas nu an unqualified success they rendered beveral pieces in a masterly manner maribe and their the irald aid ald in the choruses with the m ammoth mammoth 0 orran organ was marked and appreciated this society number over ladies ladle arnd arid gentlemen quite a number rumber of whom are or 0 recognized musical ability some of the voices are ate really excellent and in a smaller building such as the theatre or the new tabernacle now in process of erection their possessors would ehino as of a rare order prof C J thomas Is the conductor of tha thel society another very nice feature w was wab as the singing of mrs Fergus ferguson ons normal class consisting of about a dozen voices thia class has haa been beeri in training only six fits weeks and already exhibits a proficiency quite surprising in singing from the notes and does credit to the lady in charge of their studies oae one of tho the most enjoyable pieces wain was a commemorative song I 1 w written rit tit espre expressly es ly for the occasion by brother charles chanles IV stayner music composed b by y brother brothen joseph J daynes the benti venti sentiment ment of the song which was well sung by brother Brot fier NV H foster touched the hearts of all present and the grand swell of the chorus rendered by the musical society filled every soul with patriotic ardor and love for the old pioneers beamed from the counte manceb mances of the sud aud forlee fonce during its rendition the union glee club gave some of their choice selections in their usual happy hippy style and the schools sang eang three pieces that never fail fall to please their almost numberless voices form a wave of sound bound that came like the swell of the ocean through the mammoth structure this building is better adapted purposes than for a concert entertainment where many solo bolo performances are produced the classical should ba be to a great extent reserved fur for such buildings asare as are suited in their construction to such performances but as a whole the entertainment that was given ye berday has haa probably never ben been surpassed here either in iti variety or artistic merit |
