Since then various money crises have led to a 10 percent devaluation of the American dollar and the end of the old of fixed currency system values. All major currencies now are floating against the dollar, letting the flow of funds across foreign exchange markets determine currency rates without government intervention. y These crises have added a new sense of urgency to the need to reform the worlds money arrangements and establish a more flexible system of exchange rates in which currencies reflect more quickly than in the past changes in a countrys ability to compete in world markets. Late last week U.S. Treasury Secretary George Shultz, urged that a deadline be set for implementing reform. In meetings last week of the committee of 20 deputies the technical experts who have to work out a viable reform blueprint, for considera-- ' tion by the ministers some countries thought that reform talks should proceed with more caution. But the groups chairman, Jeremy Morse, a former Bank of England executive director, noted at a press conference, at the end of two days of discussions that agreement had been reached to intensify reform discussions. ... The meaning of the word baptism is the same as the meaning of the word immerse." Specifically, baptism means to immerse in water as a religious rite, that the body may be brought forth from the water into a regeneration, or newness, of life. Jesus said unto Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God (John 3:5). A man can be born again in the same way in which he first was born into the world. This is by coming forth from water and Spirit which comes from receiving the Cod. Many say that baptism means immersion in water for the remission of sin. Those who say this speak the truth. The Apostle Peter commanded the Jews at Pentecost, saying; "Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost" (Acts 2:38). Thus baptism in water is for the remission of sins and the body of flesh and bones coming forth from water receives a newness of fe from the Holy Ghost. These blessings of remission of sin and newness of life are conferred through the authorized servants of God, when they are acting in obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in behalf of those who have faith in Him and repent from ungodliness. "Straight is the gate, and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it" (Matt. 7:14). The strait gate and narrow way are Baptism, and the gift of the Holy Ghost. The Spirit and the body are the soul of man, and the gift of regeneration from the Holy Ghost places the soul in a more glorious principle of existence than he previously enjoyed. As the principles of this new life are lived, they bring the soul ever nearer to Goo and ever more like His beloved Son. Everyone that is baptized comes forth again from the water, but not all immediately receive the Holy Ghost. Jesus said to N;codemus, "Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again. RIB 8e LB. mWins STEM&ii CERTIFIED TOOTETTK ( MiiMlEFF. Lb MARCH The laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost was instituted by Jesus as a confirmation; it is a necessary sequence to the Cospel that there might be certainty in the ordinances. An example of this is found in the Book of Acts "Now when the apostles who were in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John; Who when they were come down prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost (for as yet He was fallen upon none of them; Only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost" (Acts 8:14-17- ). Is the Laying on of Hands for the Gift c the Holy Ghost a Baptism, or is it the quickening of life associated with birth? In the original birth, in which every person has participated, an immortal Spirit quickened the body of flesh, which was brought forth from the water. The body ot flesh became a living soul. Should not the same rules apply for a second birth? If the body of flesh is brought forth from the water without the quickening of life from the Spirit then it is a stillbirth, and there is no growth nor life from it. But this second birth, when accompanied by the Laying on of Hands for the Gift of the Holy Ghost, is a lively act. This reasoning makes plain that the Laying on of Hands when associated with Baptism by Immersion is the quickening power of Spiritual Life. 26.27,23. We have a record of the baptism of Fire and the Holy Ghost which Adam, the Father of all those living experienced. It is the Book of Moses, chapter six. By the Spirit Adam was carried down into the water, laid under the water, and brought forth out of the water. Thus he was baptized, and the Spirit of God descended upon him and he was quickened in the inner man: Thus Adam was born again, becoming a Son of God. The Father of all living has set us a clear example. We too, must have the baptism of Fire and the Holy Ghost. Baptism unto a regeneration of the soul is the law of Jesus Christ. The spirit and the body are the soul of man. The resurrection from the dead is the redemption of the soul, in the resurrection those spirits of celestial glory shall receive celestial bodies. Those spirits of terrestrial glory shall receive terrestrial bodies. Those spirits which have received bodies through the law of birth shall receive back that same body which they have laid down in death. Those spirits which have not kept the law of birth unto glory shall not have a resurrection of glory. Everyone should want to read the Apostle Paul's testimony concerning the resurrection from ihe dead. It is found in the Holy Bible, I Corinthians, Chapter 15. What is the Baptism of Fire and the Holy Ghost? To answer this let us consider the two births-by-wat- er which we have discussed. FIRST: There was a quickening of life of the flesh by the presence of the Spirit. SECOND: There was the quickening of Spiritual life by the Laying on of Hands. The Spirit, after these two births, is empowered with life, and can conduct the living flesh in such a way as to gain knowledge of Heavenly things. What is more natural than to progress from former experience? By that experience Godliness and Spirituality were obtained by coming forth from water and receiving a quickening of life from the Spirit. The flesh is now Spiritually alive. The soul has received this life by the remission of sin and by laying on of hands and has become holy. of the Tlio Church Body and of the Spirit of Jesus Christ post orrtet sox ii KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI 64141 V ! v.vvf; l .V.V.
