Sen. Alan Bible, Clifford P. Hansen, and Frank E. Moss, r held a long hearing after the U.S. Forest Service started condemnation proceedings on two tracts of private land in the heart of the four-hou- recreation area. Sen. Bible, chairman of the subcommittee on parks and recreation, presided at the hearings, which attracted Daggett, Uintah and Sweetwater, Wyoming, county officials, private individuals, representatives of the Forest Service and Ashley National Forest. Lee Jorgensen, Utah Travel Council director, also attended. Senate Intentions Known Mark Eggertsen, Salt Lake City, was planning a recreational site, including a golf course, condominiums and a lodge, on three tiacts of land near Greendale Jet., south of Dutch John, when the Forest Serivce made known its condemnation intentions on two of the tracts. The Forest Service contention is that the proposed development, in a crucial area of the Ashley National Forest, would detract from the areas scenic beauty, according to Verne Hamre, Ogden, Region Four forester. Mr. Hamre explained that the Forest Service wants to buy the land from Mr. Eggertsen, returning it to Forest Service use and leaving Eggertsen the third parcel of land on which to build the recreation area. For Original Plan Mr. Jorgensen, appearing on behalf of Gov. Calvin L. Rampton, spoke in favor of the development original plans and against the condemnation, as diu many local officials who look to the development to spur the lagging local economy and build the tax base. Sen. Bible expressed concern over inadequate Daggett County zoning ordinances that would not be able to handle the large development. P orence Green. ayne Married Warren &,m Leslie Allen, Dec. WYO. fire gutted the Joiiv Roger restaurant here F riday at 7 :30 a.m. and destroyed its contents. Employes on thpir way to work discovered the flames. Evanston Volunteer Firemen worked until 11:13 a.m. to put out the fire. Chief Edward Jones said he thought the fire started at the steam table in the restaurant kitchen. It then spread up the staircase to second floor dining rooms but did not reach the third floor. Mr. and Mrs. Joe D. Wheeler, owners, had invested thousands of dollars renovating the premises and adding kitchen equipment. There was no insurance on the restaurant, Chief Jones said. The Jolly Roger was organized in 1946 and recently celebrated its 23th anniversary. Mr. Wheeler announced immediate plans to rebuild. Hughes to Send $300,000 Aid To Nevada U. RENO (UPI) Billionaire Howard Hughes sent word to the University of Nevada regents Friday that within a few days" they would receive $300,000 to help operate the d medical school here. The announcement quieted fears by University officials that Hughes would not honor an agreement to provide up to $300,000 annually for 20 years to make up any deficit in the school operation. a" hill Marcella P.
