city at 10 this morning for the purpose of nominating the party ticket to be voted for at the election on august ath the convention ven was called to order by junius P F wells lie ile nominated for t temporary chairman george M ottinger who was chosen accordingly by unanimous vote jhen henry r y I 1 wallace wailace nominated junius junins F wells 11 for f r secretary ce c tar y pro tem temm and he was elected in like manner william fuller moved for the appointment by the chairman 0 of f a committee of tive nise on credentials which motion was carried and the following were selected and unanimously sustained william fuller of the first precinct joseph H dean of the third francis platt of the fifth 0 D endrickson hendrickson II of mill creek and caleb D brinton of south cottonwood this committee haying having retired win will W taylor moved for the election of ezekiel olman holman II of san sandy 1 g as first vice president landsb and S B young youns 1011 D lna ina made d e a motion that mrs mrs catherine M anderson of tile the second preci precinct ne t b be e sustained as second vice pres president i d en t both motions were passed unanimously C B felt was chosen assistant secretary on motion of james li anderson thomas F howells was elected sergeant at arms anns on motion of ell eli A follano Folla nl lle iii and on motion of A IV arlson arison carlson nominations for the ollices offices to be filled at the cornin coming election be made from the body of th the e house thereupon nominations were made as follows and unanimously sustained for probate judge elias A smith nominated by james H 11 anderson Ander sonk soni for selectman jesse AV fox jr nominated by IV IV taylor for county clerk john 0 cutler nominated by byrdlon rulon S wells for county assess assessor or WS burton nominated by C B felt for county collector N V jones nominated by A W carlson for sheriff john A groesbeck nominated by S B young for county surse hurve surveyor J D 11 IL mcallister nominated by henry wallace for county coroner george J taylor nominated by ell eli A rollamd eoila Folla and aad md for county recorder george al cannon nominated by joseph F simmons for prosecuting attorney isaaca isaac at waddell nominated by leonard G hardy nominations of candi candidates dates were then made for justice of the peace and constable in each precinct represented bydeley by delegates ates from the same respectively and oil on motion of F S richards richards hards they were ratified ra titled by the convention and the present incumbents of those offices in the precincts not represented viz alz granite hunter and north point were nominated for reelection election re the following were elected the county central committee john sharp john it winder feramorz little theodore mckean 1 I 31 hi 11 stewart joseph S rawlins A al cannon john T caine samuel it bennion john F mrs E B wells mrss 31 rsS 31 kimball mrs airs M 1 I horne hone thomas E taylor and P F a S richards the only change in the old committee is the substitution of the name of F S richards for that of david 0 calder deceased it was stated by joseph 11 II dean that the deputy registrar of herrl herri man precinct had moved the voting place of said precinct from herriman herniman where it was located for over twenty years to a point six miles up tile the canon cannon for the apparent purpose of accommodating commo dating a mining camp to the detriment and inconvenience of the majority of the voters oters of the precinct and he offered the following resolutions which were passed unanimously oy ny the convention resolutions WHEREAS 1 s the voting place of herriman precinct tor lor over twenty years ears cars previous to the advent of the mh utah commission was at herriman and WHEREAS the deputy registrar has arbitrarily removed said sald voting place six miles up into the mountains for the apparent purpose of accommodating a mining camp though the voters of said sald mining camp calup are in the tile minority and WHEREAS it is almost impossible for the he more aged of the voters to climb the mountain to said botin voting place therefore resolved ees He olred solved that we the representatives of the peoples party in county convention assembled do hereby beneby earnestly protest against this unjust action of the deputy registrar and rie eie resolved solved that this convention res instruct the county central ommittee to wait upon the utah commission and use their influence to have the voting place again established at herriman caleb D brinton delegate from south cottonwood stated that the majority of the voters in his precinct had a similar cause of complaint in the re removal inoval of the place from its former central location to haines store on the state road and he hoped this grievance ri evance would al also aiso 0 be remembered and its redress asked for another gentleman present informed the NEWS reporter that the south cottonwood voting place was now next door to a whisky saloon the proximity of which was very distasteful to say sav noth nothing ingiA if i f the inconvenience of such an out of the way location to the majority of the voters who were compelled to go there to cast their ballom ballots on motion of W W taylor a unanimous vote of thanks was tendered to the officers of the convention F S richards reminded the convention of the apathy exhibited amon among voters of the peoples party in in some of the jle jie re cincis and suggested that each delegation be constituted a committee to assist the the time of the c counting of the votes A motion that tile the suggestions of mr richards ichards Il be carried into effect was made by dr S B young and carried unanimously on motion of iames dames james H anderson the convention adjourned sine die |
