Expecting Lizards Momentarily hes expecting a shipments of skinks lizards from Australia. And hes looking around for rattlesnakes to ship to the sender of the lizards. His collecting is done through the Herpetologists League, an international organization that lists persons wishing to trade In his trading, he h-received wall lizards from England and mangrove Snakes from Borneo. In addition, he has traded reptiles in 21 states and in Mexico. as Ask for Snakes - Persons requesting reptiles from him most frequently ask for Shakes common to Utah. During foe past three years that hes been trading, hes filled out 524 collection data cards on his specimens. But his specimens arent all alive. Kerry keeps them alive at least long enough to study them, then gives jthe reptiles away, trades them or pres- erves them. Has 150 Jars . He has more than 150 jars with preserved specimens. The reptiles he has kept vary from a coaChwhip crickSnake to a et frog. Kerry began his hobby besix-fo- cause Ive always been interested in animals, and I thought I could study them more in detail this way. Dr. John M. Legler, associate professor of zoology and entomology at the University of Utah, helped him begin his project. Turner fill several vacancies on the 6taff. The combination of the two means that the prison can now offer a custodial officer $408 per month starting salary instead of $354, Warden Turner said. . Five Vacancies Presently foe warden has five vacancies in the custodial ranks. He hopes foe positions can be filled by Aug. 16. The state has approved the cost, of living increase, which increased the beginning salary from $354 to $371. The recent upgrading of the officers position from Grade 7 to Grade 8 has jumped the starting salary to $408, Warden Turner said. Several other positions in foe prison including all custodial jobs except that of the deputy warden, exempt under the merit system, have been upgraded as the result of recent actions, he said. Age Ranges Another change is in the ages persons may now be employed. The age range for beginning employment ranges from 25 to 50 years inclusive, he said. The warden is anxious to fill the vacant posts since the prison population is expected to begin its upward climb again within r?3 which many actors have never realized.
